I drive a Celica GTS and everytime I try to accelerate to the speed 'limit' I hit around 5500 rpm and the rev limiter kicks in or something. I can slowly pass 5500 and get to redline area but not if I pin the pedal. Would the problem be my ECU or throttle cable??
All answers are greatly appreciated.

To the top with this one! I want to know too!

Are you talking about your MPH limiter? If so, you can get a chip and it will remove it. The ECU is simply cutting off fuel and timing when you are at WOT.
Post back and let me know.

What does WOT mean? MPH limiter, you mean the govenor? well that's not exactly what I mean, I mean when I stomp on it there is horrible lag and then i hit the RPM limiter on the car, i think the ECU controls that ...

WOT=Wide Open Throttle
I kinda sounds like you are having fuel delivery problems, like the filter is clogged or something. How many miles are on the car? Have you changed the fuel filter? Have you cleaned the injectors? If you have done these things, I would have it put on a computer or codescanner and see what pops up. I would say that if your fuel system is cool, your problem is definatley in the ECU.

It only has 94000 Miles on the car and I put fuel injector cleaner in the tank a few gastanks ago.
I think I will go to my Toyota dealer and get them to do a full computer diagnostic on my engine to see wtf is going on.

you probably have screwed up fuel injector or you are running too lean, by hitting the rev limiter do you mean the fuel gets cut off? does your engine check light come on? it might be your o2 sensor if it's messed up your car could bog.

Do you have any news on the Celica, spinhunt? I'd like to know what the problem was!

I think what I'm going to do is get a new O2 sensor and then I will get my ECU checked out and maybe even go to a parts store and steal a fuel filter, just because i don't feel like paying for it.
I will keep you guys posted on the Celica though.
BTW would it matter that my intake pipe is 6 inches, meaning the air might be too rich and fuel too lean??

Nah, your intake piping has nothing to do with the air density.
Okay, I am confused....
when you stomp on it, it gets to 5500rpm, and then cuts off, or stands on it's nose, or what? what EXACTLY is happening, take your time and describe it as well as you can. Also include what motor, trans, and what mods you have done. From what your sig says it is a ST180 with the 5sfe, but I could be wrong.

Sorry about that, here are my specs on my car:
1989 Toyota Celica GTS
Engine: 3S-GE
Tranny: 5 speed, don't know the model
FWD
Air Intake: K&N Air filter
Suspension: TRD
The problem is, when I am cruising at normal RPM (3000) I floor it to between 5500 and 6200 and then what it seems is the rev limiter kicks in and shuts down the fuel flow to my engine and then i must shift up to get rid of the bogging of my engine.
I assumed that maybe it was my ECU acting up so I disengaged it by disconnecting the battery, then I reset the ECU and tried it again. at WOT, I gained around 500 rpm and then the bogging would return. soooooo, originally the engine would bog at 5000 now it bogs at 5500-6000. It has improved however, I believe I might need a new ECU or a better one, or an 02 sensor to provide better exhaust control.
Does that help a bit, I am just a newbie to the engine repair world.
