Simple weight reduction: remove spare tire and jack. Some people take out their floor mats. You could take out the rear seats also.

For "free" horsepower, you can advance the ignition timing which would allow the spark plugs to fire a couple of degrees sooner, giving the air/fuel mixture a little more time to burn, providing more power. But there is a limit to how much you can advance it (ie octane). If you advance it too much, or you advance it just a little and still use 87 octane piss, you'll experience knocking/pinging/detonation. This is bad. So be careful.

what SE-Rage said. SE-Rage - What do you think a good adjusment for my cam-gears would be?? I have advanced the intake 4deg, and retared the exhaust 3deg. Phil said you might know.

BTW: why is this thread in Racing and Kill Stories??? Just wondering

Peace:D

I'm no Honda expert, but advancing the intake a bit and leaving the exhaust or retarding it a bit sounds right. The exact degrees, I wouldn't know. You want overlap (when both valves are open at the same time) if the car has very little or no overlap (which is usually the case for Honda to reduce emissions), the question is how much overlap. More overlap (when both valves are open at the same time) generally increases low and midrange hp but can slightly hurt top end power. Less overlap gives more top end power but loses some mid range power. I guess it depends what you want and what you're willing to sacrifice.

I don't know if 8 degrees of overlap is too much or too little, but it sounds okay to me for a Honda engine.

The trick is finding the timing where you can gain some hp and lose little or none elsewhere.

The best way would be to dyno tune it, but for people like me, that's too expensive.

Free HP, heres what you do:

-Clean the front grill of the car. Make sure there are no more dead bugs stuck in the fan.

-Wash air filter

-Clean your spark plugs(but must know what you are doing)

-Change your oil, trans oil also.

See if your car have "VIC" (Variable Induction Control) Do adjustment accordingly.

Your car will run smoother! and you'll get at least 5-10 HP.

Note on weight reduction, if you should ever take out the spare tire, be sure to replace it with a Tire Repair kit!
