modded cars that claim "stock"

Why is that every time I am at the line waiting for someone to race, some dude will come up to my window and ask me if I wanna race.. when i ask "what's he got" they ALWAYS reply "he's all stock".

Then i explain that i dont wanna race no freaking stock civic! then they get pissed and turn to their buddys "this bitch dont wanna race your STOCK civic" and keep talking smack!

Whats up with that? his freak'n car sounds like he has something in it..

I think they think they are sleepers and they wanna catch my (seemingly stock) civic off guard..

so maybe my exhaust isnt 4 inches (its actually unbolted) and my ride isnt slammed with a body kit.. if they only knew that my GS-R rims are used only for drag racing nights(i save my nice tires for more important occasions).. if they only knew that all my body-kit money went to the engine... if they only knew why my front end dipped down lower then my rear...

They try SOOOO hard to get me to race their "stock" cars! whats up with that? If you had a modded civic, would you wanna race a STOCK civic just to be cool? Its sad that these folks have to try and trick cars-that-look-stock into racing..

now that i think of it, i will race the next car that claims to be some sort of magical "stock" civic that can run 15.1..

When it comes from the factory. I tell people I have a 1.6 dz. It serves at least one important function. Keepin coniving haters from plottin to steal my car. I do feel guilty sometimes for telling people that when I know and they find out that it's really a GSR swap.

I think ppl say that their car is stock because if they lose a race, then they will say their car is stock which is part of the reason why they lost. And if they win a race, it makes their car look good (or so they think it will) because they won in a stock (or so stock) car. Know what im trying to say?

I have friends that have Hybrids and they consider their cars stock. And so do I, it's a stock B16 or B18c motor. And you can't count intake exhaust and most bolt on shit as modifications. Mods are any internal engine tweaking and or power adders!! (Cams,rods,pistons,turbo,nos,etc..)

So I guess you have to ask yourself what people consider stock...we don't all have the same ideas and beliefs. Just my 2 pennies! :)

I would say thats not stock. I would also say by the same logic that an SS isnt stock. ITs a z-28 with mods. Cause you can order mods through the dealership....

With SS, I believe a stock car is classified as what the motor came with. As in the original factory motor. If it's still a 2.0 with same internals and the motor has not been pulled apart, it is a stock motor. Intake & Exhaust are things that all cars come with....if the maker didn't care about rules and regulations then they would have put bigger piping and a better flowing intake on the car too.

So if you put on all kinds of bolt ons that just cause your motor to work as it was orginally intended by the engineers then I don't see those as mods. Now if you are using Nos or bigger cams and better internals then it is no longer a stock motor. That's just how I see it???

Interesting point here is this.

Bolt ons are allowed in Trophy Stock and other such NHRA classes.

Gears,headers,some cam changes,blueprinted heads etc are all legal in T/S S/S S/SA etc as far as the NHRA is concerned.

I say a car is stock if it is in the same condition it came off of the assembly line.

I wouldnt say the showroom floor because of dealer packages and such offerings.

As for the civics that always say "my car is stock", that's fine. If it really is stock, it just makes you that much easier to beat!

The first time I ever went to the "street races" when I was about 17 I got destroyed by a worked stang, beat by about 5 cars. When I pulled up to him at the next light I asked him what he had in it, he just said its all stock I'll pull over u can see the motor, and then he took off again (car had tons of guages, sounded amazing, huge cam in it, slicks, etc). He was obviously just messing with me cos I was just a punk kid who didnt know how to drive at all and had a basically stock car, the whole time he had this smirk on his face. That kinda ticked me off then but later I just laughed about it. I've said that before to kids who were just like me at that time, just as a joke. As for saying it online, thats not chill. Ill tell anyone my mods online and Ill tell them after a race if they are cool, win/lose doesnt matter. If I lose I wont say I'm stock just to look better though, thats straight bitch shit.
Ive pulled up to service stations before and had mechanics come out and ask me if my car was a 4 cylinder, cos it doesnt have 5.0 badges, and I just say yeah it is. These guys must be complete morons, I have headers, off road H pipe and 2 chambers, I dont know how they could think it was a 4 cylinder. I just lay a nice strip when I leave, you should see the look on their faces.

Claiming to be "all stock" has been around since the beginning of streetracing...its nothing to be pissed off about if some guys has an intake and exhaust and claims to be stock.I consider my car stock...because i havent touched the internals at all.Ill tell anyone what mods i have,anytime,before a race,after a race,whenever.Some people dont want others to know what they have.I respect that too,but personally i could give a shit less if folks know what i got!

i have a 90 crx with a jap-spec ZC swap. It's not the fastest swap i the world, but its good in a light weight car. a lot of people in the past would not race me even just for fun when they hear i have an engine swap. so i just keep it quiet. i tell them i have the usual bolt-ons which i do, but i dont tell them about the swap. plus when im at the streetraces i dont run my car to death and go and try to race every mofo there. i sit back and watch and race now and then. people think cus im not out trying to race everybody the my car is slow and talk shit. then is when i race them and beat them. id ont lie to them...i just dont tell.

i see nothing wrong with racing a stock car. that's the "bring what you got" type of situation. you'd be suprised how many stock cars can take highly modified cars because of HUGE lag, or no traction, or things like that. i took a z28 in the snow once in my sentra se-r, he had no traction but he insisted on racing....

all my car has is a drop in air-filter and exhaust, so it looks stock. but when my car is finished, it'll still look stock. god bless sleepiness. :)

I believe STOCK is straight off the showroom floor with no extras thrown in2 the engine or suspension. If there are any bolt-ons or engine work (turbo, n20,engine swaps, etc.), that doesn't count as stock. You can still say stock if you want, but it's better 2 say all motor if you have bolt-ons.

In streetracing competitors are always trying to "size up" the competition. So people usually bs eachother about what they have to make the other guy/gal feel like he/she is at an advantage. This probably dates back to the times when they used to race chariets and shit... haha

a boss 429 is stock, an AC Corbra is stock, it all depends on what you do to your car. putiing a k&n is technaclly chagning it over from stock, but it is not much of a gain horsepower wise. My car was stock, with a big block 400. it all depends.

My car is completely stock.... with 460 hp. Right now Im runnin 12's. When i get my mods (if i do) i hope to get over 550 hp, and hit 10's. im only 16, and it took all of my money just to get the damn car, but it is already shit fast, so i don't really need anything right now. Even though my car is fast, there are 4 or 5 other vipers in my town, which is crazy because there are only about 30000 people. aomeday ill own the streets. - peace out
