I'm getting about $1500 for my birthday and graduation this year and I was wondering about how much it would cost for a decent Mustang rolling chassis. The Neon is nice, but I don't wanna build on it because I have to commute to school. Therefore I would like a simple race car, not a full out drag car or anything like that, just something that will keep up with my friend's '92 Stealth TT.
My other friend owns a place that restores Mustangs and getting the motor is really no big deal. But he doesn't deal much with the 80's chassis', so I've gotta find my own. I don't really wanna blow all of the $1500 on it because it's gonna cost me some to rebuild the engine I've got. Thanks for any help.

Junkyards.
Get looking. You'd easily be able to find a drivetrainless fox 5.0 for that price, probably even some with an engine for that price.

Yeah well I was just wondering if I could find one for less than the $1500. I dont really want one with the engine cause i'll end up having to pull it anyway. Just a ball park figure, and maybe even other suggestions if people have them. I'm just guessing that the Mustang would be the cheapest way to go.

the one thing i hate the most about mustangs, is the simple fact the work. but wether it is the cheapest? i built a chevy small block for $3500. it takes 91 octane and is a daily driver. chevy is known to be the cheapest and easiest to build. the car i put that motor i payed $500 for it and drove it till the motor was built. try police auction drive away with a for about 200 or so.
LT WHAT?

and you are now known as a moron. You will be hard pressed to find anything cheaper to build than a 5.0. Sure there are the rare occasions of a super cheap build on a camaro, but the days of chevy's bang for the buck reign came to an end when the 87 5.0 was released.
