My customer came into my shop today and showed me the fix it tickets he just got. He wasn't speeding or anything. His car is has a nice paint job and mild wing.

The officer pulled him over for his tachometer, which is nicely tucked near the front door, a little flag he had on the right side of his windshield, a small fire extinguisher and gave him a state ref sign off for his AEM intake, which is CARB legal.

I'm thinking Union City needs a big SRO meet, show some people whats up.

fire extinguishers - if u dont have a built motor or some type of fuel work you DO NOT need one. The only time when i almost needed one was when i put the Orings on my fuel injectors wrong. and it sprayed gas all over the place.

I got a state ref sign off ticket also for mods with stickers.. bastards. The problem is; my motor is built... but all the visable things have numbers.. ugh

If a tach or fire extinguisher blocks the windshield, it's illegal. Same reason you can't put stickers on your windshield or hang things from your rearview mirror.

Of course not. And when you're adding oil to your un-built, unmodified engine and some spills onto your hot exhaust manifold and there's a flash fire, you don't need one then either.

Install a big stereo, use the wrong gauge wiring, electrical fire. I'd rather have an extinguisher on board than watch my car burn to nothing on the side of the road.

i THINK in australia big tachs are illegal cause if you crash you could whack your head on it, rather then hittin the interior of your car (which is supposidly safer)... could be the same there?

if he fights the ticket he probably will get it tossed out of court. if the intake has a carb number the judge can't do anything. the fire extinguisher was prbably on the A pillar. That can be looked at as blocking view. With the flag...if he brought in a picture of the car showing where it is, it may get thrown out.

i'm down for sure, at least union city cops aren't getting as anal as the fremont ones... yet.

btw: the only thing we have to worry about besides the po's is parking during the weekends, is someone going to take the initiative and plan this out?! i would but spring break is almost over and its back to davis i go :)

im down for a SRO meet in Tracy! my mom lives there so i can juss crash at her house!

i got a ticket in tracy once.. it was CRAZIE! i got:

Exhaust (too loud), AEM Intake (which is CARB legal too), Lowered Car (20 inches!!), guages/pod (obstruction to drivers view), TV Screen (Distraction to driver), No Front Plate, and Tint was TOO dark! (when it really isnt)

tracy cops.. :haha:

yes fire extinguisher is obstruction of view on the pillar. it was so small and mounted very low.

I think if you had a dirty windshield UC police would give you a fix it ticket!

i dunno about UC cops.. i've had 2 of them follow me around when i was driving my mr2 to my friend's house.. i've never had any real trouble with fremont cops though :greenange

LOL uc cops...davis police in general. they have enough time to pull me over on a sunday afternoon for 20 minutes to give me a fix it ticket for no front plate. while at the same time 2 (maybe more?) cars get stolen in 2 weeks.:confused:
