First off my plan is to instal a usdm or jdm (don't matter to me) h22a engine into my 93 honda civic. My existing car has the 1.5 L sohc non-vtech plant hooked up to an auto tranny. I know it needs work to fit and work properly. What I want to Know is what manual transmission to use, and how much the swap would cost , engine, trany, and instalation.

ouch... that's gonna be pretty expensive. It's VERY labor intensive. The tranny I'd use personally would be the same that comes with the engine. Keep in mind with the h22a you're going to have an understeer problem, so I would make sure you want to do just straight drag race. the h22a is really not the engine to go to with an auto-x. I'd suggest a B series swap, b18 or maybe a b20 series engine. cheaper and less intensive labor wise, and trannys you could use integra trannys.

the h22 is way way too heavy for a civic unless you're only going to drag race the thing (cause your cornering and other aspects of handling are going to suffer greatly). now a b18 or a b20 is a much better idea. you actually keep drivablity.

another problem besides severe understeer is the fact that the engine position is sitting back which cause it to pull more on the frame of the car and it also snaps axles more easily.
the angle of the engine is leaning back instead of forwards.

forget it. I'm most likely going to go with a built b16, my first idea. I know it swaps right in with out much hassel and it is way faster then my existing engine. Thank you for your comments. Peace.

well honestly if you were going to drop the money on an h22, do a b18 swap. build it up a little and you'll have a decent setup.

I finaly found prices for engine swaps and the h22 swap was a lot more expensive than I had anticipated. About 4000 as compared to a B16a for 1200. I've got a good hook up for parts so maybe i'll throw a turbo on it or keep it simple and cheap with nitrous. Either way I'm going fast. Does this swap mean I get to put one of those giant tachometers on my A pilar! Yeah baby.
