I have a 94 Civic EX with the folloiwng performance mods:

Stock airbox mod for cool air intake
Greddy sport exhaust
Cool plugs
170 F thermostat
18 psi radiator cap
66% ethylene glycol coolant
Proportional boost timing retard (variable 1-4 deg/psi)
JR Supercharger (8 psi pulley kit)
Base timing at 5 BTDC
190 lb/hr fuel pump (pressure at 58 psi w/vacuum tube off)

At moderate throttle, I experience engine ping (runs great with only 0.75 deg/psi proportional retard at WOT). Taking out more base timeing KILLS performance. Taking out more proportional timing (usually at 1.5 degrees / PSI) kills performance, and DOESN'T SEEM TO HELP moderate acceleration ping.

I have cleaned and lubricated all the sensor connectors. All modification connections have been checked.

Anyone have any idea what else I can try. Is this a vacuum problem? Valves (doesn't smoke)? Do I need more cooling? If so (to either)what do you suggest.

Thanks

Get the water injection kit from Jackson racing. Anything over 6 psi it is highly recommended to cool the boosted air. Oh since you haven't mentioned it do use 92 octane fuel.

i would datalog the car before i went off spendin more money u need to see what the computer is seeing for timing, i'm not to familiar with hondas, but if your runnin any kinda boost you'll need more fuel and a pump is great but you also may need bigger injectors and a vacume regulated fuel pressure regulator as well as some way to read your a/f, i'd recommend you getting a afc at least which can help alot in the fuel tuning and a digital a/f readout guage not a autometer flashy light which looks cool but is shit for tuning. so make sure you have the correct fuel and timing and if you are getting knock still go for a intercooler before the water injection which will 1. look better:) and 2. be more reliable

I dont think its the air, i would think u'll need a air:fuel controler..and no u dont use 92 Octane rating fuel to run a force inductioned vehicle, get the best u can get

i'm runnin 20psi on 93oct with no problem, as long as you have the right set-up it will and can work, of course i could run 24 with some 103:)

92-93 is about the highest we get here in the states so we have to make it work:) of course our roads are alot wider then in japan so maybe it's an even trade, we get more room to go slower:) i remember the first time i went to japan my ship pulled in to yokuska (hope i spelled it right) i thought i had died and gone to heaven, i think the japanese must turbo charge everything

on average you get 93 just about everywhere, once in a blue moon you might find some 94 and even rarer you'll see a station with 100, but 9 times out of 10 you'll only be able to get 93

Try the water cooler kit from jackson and always always run premium grade gas, Gas is the best thing you can do for the pinging. A little octane booster will help too if you have the money to blow. It worked for me...it should work for you.

Get a fuel computer, like the A'PEXi Super AFC. The S-AFC allows you to tune your fuel curve, +/-50% in 500RPM increments. It also has HI/LO settings which would be perfect for your problem. You can use two fuel maps for full and part throttle. If tuned correctly, you might net even more power out of your setup. G'luck ;)

Like your injectors arent keeping up. I dont know much about hondas.

What size injectors do you have?

Seems like you have more than enough fuel pump.

Also check A/F ratios and see what your computer is giving you or seeing is respect to total timing.

Hey,

You are probably experiancing some detination in you engine which could eventuall burn holes in your pistons or warp your heads, basically your in for some serious engine damage if you don't fix this real soon.

This problem better solved by a combination of things just to be safe and smart when running forced induction on a Honda. You're not getting enough fuel and that's partially due to Hondas not being configured for forced induction b/c the have a MAP sensor and that causes fuel delivery to always be late and inadequate under forced induction circumstances without some help. Here's what you need to do to run safely:

Buy premium, as has been said.

Get a water mist injection kit, as has been said.

The injectors like Dan said, they may be OK for the load (near max), but you may want to pick up some used ITR injectors for cheap.

You need a fuel computer as someone mentioned, like the A'PEXi S-AFC (or the VTEC version, V-AFC maybe it's called?).

Finally, you could buy one of those nearly worthless A/F guages from someone like Autometer ... or you should go the real tuner way and check your lean/rich by monitoring the Exhaust Gas Temperature by getting an EGT guage.
