?..need info on oil temp. guage..?

i was wondering what the benefit of knowing your oil temp. would be?....my friend is thinking about buying a oil temp. guage

You get to see your oil temp
it reflects on how hot your engine is running, like a temp gauge

I run a temp gage with a red light hooked up to it when i race my car if it drops below 10psi the light will come on, hasnt yet never had a problem. ALso with the gage say you got a bad oil pump or you get a crack in your pan your oil pressure will drop to zero were you can turn your car off and save the motor instead of a little light on your dash and your wondering what it does

i got a sending unit, that i could run a hot to, and then grounded it out wiht a auto meter light that is red, i think you can get the diagram from auto meter still i will look around on the net for the diagram for it

How many wires run from the sender? one hot to the sender and it should ground out with a groud wire.. ahow many wires do you have?
