ok so what would be the benefit of installing an adjustable rev limiter. correct me if im wrong but i would be able to raise my redline which would make a fair bit of difference with my cvt.
the particular rev limiter im looking at is the micro dynamics visiscale rev limiter (dunno if its sold in the usa) on the actual box with the knob it says "smoothcut rds visiscale over rev limiter" they sell various versions for different rpm ranges the one i would be considering is either the 3500-7000rpm one or the 6000-9000rpm one. the unit is adjusted by a knob on the box.
if i am correct and it does allow for a higher redline what would be a safe limit to set it at? quoted from the manual max intermittent engine speed 5950rpms, max continuous engine speed 6175rpms.
which of the two would be where the car would redline because i honestly never stare at my tach and watch it. the most ive ever noticed it at was like 5200rpms.

Well, it would be a good way to prevent missed shifts from damaging your engine.

i never miss a shift... err i never shift....... hehe ive got a constantly variable auto box. with the cvt the only big gain i can see would be after running at WOT for a long period of time. the way the cvt works in my car (dunno about other cars with cvts) but anyway in mine if i floor it the revs jump up to about 3500rpms then climb quickly to 4000 from there the revs keep climbing but climb slower and slower. the time i checked my tach was when i was racing a golf and towards the start of the race (about 20mph or so) the revs were at 4000 and climbing. i looked at the tach and speedo again after a few seconds and the revs were at 5200 and climbing alot slower than they were from 4000 (i was doing about 80mph when i checked the tach again). i can only see a benefit in the top end (somewhere over 100mph) or maybe the top speed.
thats put another question in my head... it seems as though the car climbs up in revs slower as it gets closer to the redline. would installing a rev limiter and raising the redline mean it would climb quicker to 5200rpms than w/o the rev limiter?
also what would be (roughly) the highest i could set the limiter to without damaging the engine and, taking into account my cvt, does the cvt void any/all benefits of upping the redline as ive never actually hit the redline since ive owned the car.
ok now im just confused, wheres PNG lol.......

There would be no benefit from you raising your redline on your car.
Get your car dyno'd.

Yah, you probably have run out of power WAY before you will get to the redline...
Dont waste your money.

your engine's peak power and torque may be below the raised redline anyway.

from the factory peak torque is 4k and peak hp is 5.2k. i spose its a little off that now that ive got the catback and done a couple little things.
i was going to say something else but i jsut forgot it so... :haha:
OH.. yea i remember. fuck.. i forgot again (seriously) grr........ oh yea, as far as i know there are no dyno's nearby. if i can track one down thats not too far away id like to find out what hp im at.

if you have a rev limiter already and youre trying to raise tha point its not that easy because its built into the ecu. you would have to get that chipped to be able to surpass that rev limiter if im not mistaken. that might be worth it because then you will have better fuel maps and if you have an automatic that is electronically controlled you can get better shifts to with a chip.
