hey wat's up to eveyone, i'm new. so don't bitch me out , thing is i got 2000 to start off with. i need a car that can basically be one of the fastest cars in school and then also look nasty if i just throw a kit or rims on it. I was lookin into 300s, 240s or maybe civics, the only reason i want the civic is cuz they're cheap to do up,any advice would be helpful, thanks -peace

ya, $2000 isn't enough to build a fast car that isn't a mustang. 240's are not drag cars, neither are civics. Basically, if you have to have the fastest drag car at your school, don't get an import, because if one kid gets a V8 F-body, then you're pretty much screwed.

if you get a mustang......you are going to have a hard time to find one that hasnt been ran to the grave.....meaning it is hard to find a stang for 2k that will last you longer than 6 months.....but you didnt say what you wanted it for.....drag, autox or just a good rounded car......i still say dsm......

2k for civic HB 93.......less 1k for LS motor.....runs 14sec....basic bolt ons........new cam and je pistons.......again about 1k worth or a little more......damn thing runs 14 sec........i like to see a stock stang do that......the thing is that a stang with the same bolt ons may run high 13's or low 14's but i bet the car i just described would desimate the stang on the road course........it is all in what you want your car to do........

The title of an article from Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords; "9's@145 for $5000." It included the price of the car.

Don't try and debate bang for buck when you're talking about 5.0s. $700 in aftermarket on a stock 5.0, which can be bought for cheaper than a Civic of the same year, and it'll run 12s.

Civics are not racecars. They suck at racing and they always will.

Ok then, for the sake of discussion and to educate the readers of this board; I'd like to know why, say a '92 Civic hatch would be a better choice as a racecar than a '92 Mustang GT.

LT WHAT?

if you want to be a big bad conekiller, then get a civic. if you want to do any real racing, a 5.0 can't be beat for the $. first of civics do NOT handle better. second, even if they did, a mustang with the same amount of money in it would simply walk away from a ceebic on a straight. civics were intended for one thing and one thing only, to commute. try and debate it...

i'm lost. the kid wants the fastest car in school and he is looking at a civic? what the f**k. i had a honda and i am going to tell you that all these number that people talk about is crap. in the real world to have a reputeable shop do a motor swap you need to want to spend $3k, that is not even including a new clutch, or any performance parts.
I bought my 5.0 for $2k, drove it to the track and dropped a 14.90, at palmdale(high altitude). it came with gears, after market shifter, exhaust and a broken seat(hahaha). stop with all this import crap, there are fast imports, but they are not daily driven civics.

Call up your insurance company and ask them what they classify a Mustang as. I bet you they say "Sports Car." Now ask what they classify a Civic as. I bet you they don't reply with "Sports Car." Now call Honda, ask them what they classify their Civic as, and what they had in mind when they designed/made it. I bet you you'll get "It was designed for cheap, efficient transportation and to be reliable even under the stress of high miles and daily driven abuses, such as in-city stop & go situations." Now call Ford and ask them what the Mustang was designed to do. "It was designed as a sports car ...."

Get the difference yet? You all say Mustangs don't hold up because of higher miles, get worse gas mileage, etc etc etc ... a Mustang is a sports car. It's made to get shitty mileage, be pampered to the limits of abuse, etc.

Get a clue. You can't argue power/dollar ratio when it comes to domestics.

A 96 t-bird is under sports car........yet my honduh raps it on the stight and could out handle the poor tbird hands down......it is all what you want it for......i drive my honda for a daily driver that i want to comute back and forth to work or school.....i use it for its attended use 95% of the time....the other 5% i use for a nice ballanced "sport compact" i like to know that i took a car that had terrible handling and lacked power, and go have fun with it in a way that it wasnt ment for......proves that i did the work and makes you feel better when you drive a car that you had soemthing to do with......and if you want i have a Civic whooping the ass out of a vette.....a 2000 vette against a 92-95 civic.......i bet that civic cost half of what the vette cost....it is all in what you want the car to do.......i am not banging on domestics......i would like to own one....(cant afford insurance).......

Kevin

okay your talking about how your civic is a better car than your tbird. well let look at how much the tbird weighs compared honda, which is a 4th gen, and im guessin it weights in the neighborhood of 3.1k roughly and how much does your tbird weigh, im sure it weighs more, which means it not meant to handle. and i know they are not setup to handle.

and then you say you have a video im assuming, a modded civic beat a stock vette. that is alot to brag about. any person knowing what they are doing. you can make any car beat a stock car. hell i've seen a civic beat a mustang, then again i also saw a C5 vette just walk on a skyline r33. that just tells me that if you know what you are doing, and you can drive, then you can be fast.

now as for your first car, if you want a fast car, then go with a 5.0, cause with a decent amount of money, 11's are not far away and that can be all motor, that is much easier, since you have more to work with, cause what does a stick civic run 17's, to get that down to 14 or even 13's requires a motor swap or turbo. where you can take a few minor bolt ons, 13's or 12's easy.

but it depends on what your gonna use your car for, if you wanna be the fastest go domestic. civics can be somewhat fast, but it takes alot on money.

What i have been saying is that you need to get a car that benifits the way you drive......and since this kid is new to driving do you really want him behind a 11 sec car......hell if i do......the reason i said the DSM is because it is a good starting point.....it is some what quick from the factory and it has a huge aftermarket for the car.......the DSM is very reliable.....gets you to school and work and back.....good gas milage.....and most important...it wont get this kid killed........and for my stand point...i dont want to go race up agianst someone that has only had thier car for a week and it goes down the 1/4 mile track in 12 sec or faster......

And i drive a Accord....not a civic..........and the vette was modded......in the race agianst the civic.......

actually here is a better idea...get the civic and put like 20 inch rims on there that will give you way better traction and put a big old rotary in there...that will make it so much faster and altezza lights give you like 200hp...not dissin hondas but PLEASE read the stickies....
