Alright, i'm planning on doing an engine swap sometime this summer, either a b18c1 or a b16a2 into my EG Civic the thing is can i do this legally? I'm told that the b18c1 will not be legal because of the weight difference between the civic and integra and will not pass emissions. I've also been told that the b16a1 will not be legal because of emissions also considering this is an jdm engine. The b16a3 however should pass because it is a usdm engine. However, getting a usdm engine is much harder and more expensive then getting a jdm engine for me so i would prefer to get the b16a2. Another thing is the del sol engine is also considered a b16a2 even though it's rated at about 5-10 hp lower then jdm engine (because of the ecu i believe) so has anyone actually legalized their engine swap before? also i live in CA where the emissions is strictest so....

My bro works at CA DMV (registration department) and he says he registers hybrid civics with b18's and b16's (JDM or USDM). There's even one that registered their Civic with a Spoon engine. As long as it passes smog you have no problem and these engines don't have problems passing smog as long as you have a catalytic converter.

Whoever told you about that weight difference and other stuff you don't have to worry about. They only care if it passes smog. JDM engines are set up to run at Japanese octane standards (which is like 100 I believe). Also the compression ratio's of JDM engines (talking about most dohc honda engines here) are slightly a bit higher than the USDM counterparts. That's why they have more horsepower. So when you get a JDM engine better get some octane boosters if you wanna run it normally. If not it will retard your ignition automatically and runs a bit sluggish.

thanks klenboy, i'll look into what you posted, but i'll probably just end up not reporting the engine swap cause i'm too lazy but not i'm sure yet. I'll have to see what i end up with first
