Is it illegal to film other cars while you are driving, like we documented a night the the other night and we had our camera on for like an hour in the car, and got video of other cars. Any help would be great thanx

So is it illegal if someone posts a picture of my car with the plates showing? I often see pics with the plates blurred out and wondered about this. Is it a law or are people just really paranoid?

Okay, I'm not quoting case law here, but only my basic knowledge of the law in combination with common sense...

When you drive your car on the street you are in plain public view. When you do that, everybody can see you, so you have very little (if any) expectation of privacy. So, you can be filmed doing whatever you happen to be doing in public.

If somebody is someplace where they have an expectation of privacy, and they haven't given consent to be filmed/recorded, then that's where you start running into felony issues (In CA).

If somebody knows case law or statutory law, let me know, but the above just makes sense.

Drive safe,
