VW Type 3 Notchback Suspension

Hi there, im currently in the process of restoring an old Volkswagen Type 3 Notchback, 71 model, 1600 twin carb, twin port, the Notchbacks came out with stock wind down suspension, thank god, now i can lower the shit out of it without having to worry about chopping the springs, i was just wondering if anyone knows how to wind down suspension, and if so, how to do it, as i would rather do it myself, than get someone else to do it, and save myself a lot of money in the long run
