Hey, there. As you can tell I'm new to the boards. I registered to post here because I thought you all might could help me out choosing a ride. If you can, I'd sure appreciate it.
Ok, here's what I'm dealin' w/. I'm from a small town and we run races quite often, but it's nothing real big because our town is so small. Most of the people here, including myself, don't know JACK SHIT about street racing. I have just gotten my license and wanted to get in on the racing scene (if you wanna call it one) here to make some quick cash and have a little fun. But, I have one problem, I don't know what kinda car to purchase to REALLY be competitive. I've compiled a list of what kinda vehicles I'm lookin' at gettin' right now that is affordable to me:
'95 Acura Integra
'95 Honda Civic
'95 Honda Prelude
'95 Chevy Camaro
'95 Eclipse (Optional Because Of Insurance)
And Maybe One Of The Newer Dodge Avengers
I know your askin' what's up w/ all the '95's..but that's about all I can afford right now. I may be able to go up a year or so, so if the newer model is better, feel free to lend me your opinion on those. Also, out of those, what has the better after-market? I'm leanin' more towards the Integra or Camaro right now because I like their body styles more, but the Civics I know has great after-market and have a good look w/ it as well. I'm leavin' the performance as my deciding factor. If you all would be kind of enough to voice your opinion on what I should get or even suggest a new vehicle, it would be greatly appreciated! By the way, this is a great discussion board. Fun to read. My hats off to all of you!

Oh yeah, forgot to mention I tried to go to that thread about "What Car To Choose" that was on the sticky, but the link had been removed.

u listed all the cars u wanna get and ur gonna make performance ur deciding factor then ur only choice should be the camaro. but that also depends on which model cammy u wanna get do u want the v6 or the v8? and also what model eclipse are u thinking about if ur gonna race a stock RS isn't gonna cut it. u should go for the turbo models if ur looking into eclipses GS or GSX. but with the eclipses, do u want 2WD or AWD. u should really narrow your choices down a bit more

Can you get a hold of an import dealer? Jap imports also have good bang for your bucks... And are fine as a daily driver.
I'd go the V8 cammy out of that list.

Newer isnt always better. Out of that list a v8 camaro, and ONLY a v8 camaro would be the best choice. V6 camaros should never have been created, and are a discrace to the name. The Camaro is bound to be higher insurance than any other car you listed although. If you are considering a Dodge Avenger just buy a neon. The Neon and Avenger share the same drivetrain, but the Avenger weighs much more. All the hondas will be around the same performance, and hondas have some aftermarket, but you'll get creamed by anyone with a decent muscle car.

Out of those choices, a V8 Camaro, the others don't even come close, except a GSX. And Moloko, even though V6 Camaros, hell even V6 Mustangs, are a disgrace to their respective names, they're the only reason why the F-Body lasted as long as it did and why the Mustang is still alive and kickin.

Yeah.. but it doesnt mean I have to stop slapping people who own them.
They are the reasons that those cars were around. Grandma didn't need a 14 second or 13 second v8 to go get the kids and groceries, but she still did want the name.

Then she should have bought a Beretta. A Camaro cant hold many groceries.

first of all do not buy american whatever you do... american is built like shit and will last for about a month. Basically do you want a really fast car for 2 years or a normal car for life. You can easilly make an integra a racing machine with its b18 engine. I swear to you if you buy an american car i will hunt it down and key it on the spot.
PS.....neons are for ass wipes

an added note....i own a 95 integra and i couldnt be happier with its looks and performace. So if none of the people in your area know anything about street racing a stock integra should do the job. all ive put on mine is K&N intake and nippon fomula 1 rims and im living the highlife here.

comments like these would get u flamed if this wasn't the newbie section.
i'll be factual. if u put in the same amount of money in mods, there is no way that an integra is gonna even be close to beating a v8 camaro in a drag race or on a roll.
and please dont make statements like imports are better than domestics. makes u look ignorant

yeah integras rock. running 16s and everything. or he could buy a camaro and run low 13s. hmmmm. and no the integra is not easy to make into a racing machine. if you want to get into the 11s or 12s, chances are, you've shot that "import reliability" out the window. in fact, you are the perfect semblance of what's wrong with the import world. you just talk trash with absolutely no evidence to back any of your wild claims. just because you got stuck with a slow car doesn't mean you should take it out on the rest of us.
p.s. my domestic has yet to give me any problems. and it's a 97...which makes it more than a month old...by about 6 years...

If you're happy with an integra, then you've never driven a real performance car.

You're a tool. Do NOT come on here and start spreading lies and trying to pass them off as fact. In stock form, a Camaro will last just as long as an Integra, while making more power.
If you were to modify an Integra to make the same power of a stock Camaro, you'd be rebuilding (oh, I'm sorry, with Hondas you don't rebuild engines, you just replace them) your engine every 1-2 years.

Sorry but your little theory on imports lasting longer than domestics is greatly wrong. See my sig, and the sig of most classic car owners for proof.
Any car can last forever if properly maintained and driven.
Integraguy-
Please show some serious evidence that high-preformance Japanese cars last longer than high-performance domestics. Not a modded car, but a bone stock, off the lot car.
A blown integra will have a couple problems. But a stock Camaro won't.
Moloko-
Yeah, thats why fast four doors rock. :)

Wow, those are all great opinons. I've learned a great deal. I think DiaVolo hit it on the spot with what I am looking for. I do want a car that can compete with people around here, but at the same time have affordable insurance, a good after-market, and be an overall good car. Is a Prelude really what I should go for then? Like I said, hardly anyone around here knows anything about street racing and very rarely do you see anyone with souped up cars. Mostly all the races that are held are with stock vehicles. That's why I was wanting a vehicle that I could modify just enough to beat out the stocks and get some cash. I'm not looking for a racing machine quite yet, just something to beat people around here with. LOL...I would LOVE to see you all bring your cars down here to race. You all could hustle people so bad, it wouldn't even be funny. 'Cuz a lot of the people that race here think they know EVERYTHING about street racing. :haha: I don't know why they won't admit to themselves that there are people out there who can SMOKE their car, especially driving STOCK! I know I don't know shit about street racing and don't claim to, that's why I came to these boards to learn what I can. Even in this thread, I've learned a great deal and I appreciate you all helping me out. Thanks!

You seem like such a nice guy. Run while you can. Just kidding. Read the stickies in all the car forums before you ask anymore questions. Use the search tool always before making a thread and dont be all butt hurt if ya get flamed a time or too. Just take it and move on. Welcome to SRO!
