Is there anyway to get the engine in a corvair to stay cool...heard bad things about'em and dad is thinking about getting one...but doesn't want it overheating when he goes more the 30 miles...?

Corvairs.
Wear your Nomex suit.

Add some louvers to the back trunk/hood.

The same way you help any air-cooled engine... Make sure that the cooling fan and shroud(s) are in good repair, so air's getting pumped across the cylinder fins like it's supposed to, and put on the biggest oil cooler that will fit. If you live somewhere where it gets cold in the winter, put a thermostatic bypass on the oil cooler line so that the engine warms up in a reasonable amount of time, though.

and get some air flowing past it.

you can do one of many things. my sugguestions are to place your radiator in the front of the car (I have a few friends that did this with their MR2s) or you can make vents to the engine like on the MR2s. Either way its going to be a hard thing. I guess you could also try upgrading to cold plugs or a cooler thermostat. You could try a cool air intake in the front of the car or something like that. you coulkd try that water wetter stuff too, i heard it works well.

good luck

It will be especially hard, considering we're talking about an air-cooled car.

BTW "cold" plugs have nothing whatsoever to do with how hot the engine runs.

Keep every part of the cooling system and make sure everything is in good working order. Check the thermostat, all hoses (for clamps that are too tight, cracked, brittle...etc.), radiator, fan, everything.
