Comming home from work late one night, I notice a really nice ZO6. I new it was a ZO6 from the wheels that they come with. really nice. Anyway I get behind and to the left on highway 66 in virginia. I'm in my daily driver, an SHO taurus, all stock. Damm, I wish I had my muscle car now. Anyway, in my rearview mirror I see a pair of headlights comming real fast. We were cruising about 60. I was about 40 ft behind the vet. All of sudden this porsche 944 turbo comes flying by me and must have seen the vette, because he slowed down so fast that it looked like if he just came out of warp speed. He must have downshifted and hit the brakes at the same time.

That 944 Turbo is definitelly not stock, I think to my self as I look at the huge meats in the back. Anyway, he gets alongside the vette and appears to drop gear as he starts to lurch. The vette does the same and they both slow down to about 50. I'm right behind them now, knowing what's about to happen, I get in the carpool lane and nail it. They ignore me. I must be a couple of hundred feet ahead of them when they nail it because all of sudden I can tell that they are starting to catch up to me. I'm keeping my car in the sedate double figures. As they come by me, they must be doing over 130 to 140 since they passed me like if I was standing still on the side of the freeway. The 944 turbo was about 4 car lengths ahead of the vette as they pass me, both still accelerating hard. The porsche appeared to be increasing the distance between himself and the vet. In the distance I could see the vette hit it's breaks, but never saw the porsche again. I eventually cought up to the vette. He may have lost but that sure is one nice ride.

Of course neither would have had a chance against my 500 cube GTX, but then again, I don't think my GTX can hit above 130. So there you go, a late night encounter.

In general you can count on the SHO being very close in accelation to a mustang GT. Depends on the year.

I have raced a few mustangs(Gee, they are everywere, it's almost unavoidable to race one). Almost everytime I have gone from a stand still, I have lost. My car just does not have the low end torque to beat a mustang GT with good meats. But Just about every time I have raced a GT from a 20-30 mph start, I have won, since I was already high on the rpm's and the sho motor really pulls above 3500 rpms.
