i think there was a thread about this allready

Yes they are expensive.. But if you look when it was made then you'll know why they were expensive. I think its a great Anime Movie, but alot of people take it too seriously like fnf. If the movie wasn't brought up all the time when driftings involed then it would be a awesome video for everyone to watch. But people might want to go out and do that same shit. Ohwell.
ya i have to agree with ya all...its a cool series and fun to watch..but its just an anime.

I had an argument with a friend, who is also an Initial D friend, that the AE86 does not mean 1986 Toyota Trueno. I think he still doesn't take my words but no matter.
To an initial d fan hachi-roku means
hachi- hatch back
roku-1986 (made in)
The 86 are really heaps of junks with the 4AG gasping out black smoke and the engine going putt putt putt putt......
The race worthy ones out there are very hard to find now.

I'm pretty sure it does.. I looked it up a while back and I'm almost positive it means 8-6, because they didn't refer to the Corolla as, well, a Corolla but as a Trueno or Levin (sp? am I correct on that?) so they just called it by part of the chassis code which was AE86, right? I dunno, I'm probably wrong on that...

Here (http://www.quia.com/jg/151867list.html)
First set of numbers .. it says:
481-6832 which translates into "yon hachi ichi no roku hachi san ni"
Yep, it definately means 8-6. I've had "hachi roku" in my msn screen name for over 4 months now, and that's what I've told everyone that it means.

in Japan, you will see some Skylines, Fairladys and Silvias with 23 on their plates
23 is "Ni San" and sounds very much like "Nissan"

yeah that is what i thought....recently someone said that they would buy my ae86 but only if it was a hachi roku..i told them it was..then they tried to correct me by saying that it wasnt...i tried to school him but we got into an fatty argument...i so tell him it look at this...
AE86=corolla gt-s from 85-87
AE85=corolla SR5 from 85-87
Hachi roku is 86..and yes the JDM guys talk about there cars by way of the chassy code mostly

IIRC the SR5s were AE86s chassis too... just not a GT-S spec. Basically a stripped down 86.

Corolla SR5 are AE86 not AE85.
Hachi-Roku is just Model Designation nicknames in Japan
Hachi Roku (AE86) - Corolla Levin / Sprinter Trueno / Corolla GT-S (USA) (1985~1987) and also the SR5 Corolla.
AE85 were only produce in Japan. (not "Corolla").

Yeah, I just played the arcade for the first time a few days ago. I heard on this board that there was one but i never saw it until then. Its pretty cool. Got my card... w/ the black Nismo S14 of course. But damn, i played it like twice (both w/ the that same car) and i lost both times. Either i suck or my car sucks. Or i'll get the hang of it.

Just like the S15 Silvia. Japanese cal it ichi-go (one-five) Ichigo also means "strawberry" in japanese, so sometimes you might hear people call S15 fronts Strawberry face.
If you've ever takin Japanese language class eighty-six would actually be said as "hachi-NI roku", the NI is a modifier that indicates that its 8 Ten's or eighty. So when Japanese call the corolla "hachiroku", they are actually saying eight-six, not eighty six, and of course they call it hachiroku cuz of the AE86 chassis code (we all know that). When you watch the subtitles of Initial D they translate hachiroku into "86". Technically speaking the subtitles are correct but it would of been better to leave it as "hachiroku" as its used as the nickname of the car. I can't believe people actually call the corolla an "86" here in the US. -That's a nice eight-six! It sounds really stupid. Kids are just copying what the subtitles say.
Personally I still call it a corolla, cuz that's what it is, A COROLLA. I've been involved in corollas for 8 years now, and I never called it a different name ever since. As with 240sx's, I call them a 240sx, not 180sx, Silvias, blah blah. I hate when people call my car a silvia, cuz its not. Gettin a little of the topic......
A little more modifiers:
sen- 1000
hyaku-100
MOre stuff:
ichi, ni , san , shi (yon), go roku, hichi hachi kyuu juu is adopted from chinese

^^lmfao on you.
Silly Kids AE86 are for Drifts.
They call COROLLA 86 here in the US cause THEY ARE "AE86" chassis code, you know. (oh, we all know that right?)
They have the same chassis code is Japan also, USPEC Corolla 85-87 Corollas were made in Japan not US.
Theres also an AE85 84-85 in Japan looks the same but theres couple of things that are diff from AE86.
Silly.

the number 86 is actually hachi-jyuu roku... and its shichiji (nana) for 7, buddy.
As far as calling them "86," isnt that a bit easier than saying "corolla gt-s"?
And as far as 240s go... ive owned 2, going on 3, and ive NEVER heard anybody call it a sylvia or even a 180sx... anybody who somewhat knows what their talking about calls it an s13. Reason being, that if you call it it a 240, it implies the ka24 motor, however since most people go sr20 (or at least claim to), they no longer have a 2.4 liter engine(hence 240), and therefore no longer really have a 240sx. Thats why chasis (not chasy, for all you dimwits out there) codes are so important.
initial d is cool

86 is for the Chassis CODE - AE86
Not for the YEAR....
This is why they call it "86".
