 I was looking in the paper and I saw a 1990 5.0 T-Bird. I imagined that there were v8 cougars, but i didn't think they were 5.0's. Was the engine a mustang 5.0 or were the specs different than 225hp and 300ft/lbs of torque?

Basically the same engine; different specs though.
200hp, 275tq. All parts for the 5.0 Stang's engine will fit fine. They also use the same trannies and rear end's(8.8).

yes the coug's were 5.0's check my sig! the '83 has been rebuilt and "some" emmisions have been taken care of too!! from what i know the t-bird/cougar 5.0 were exactly the same. the mustangs came with a better cam, heads, flat top pistons, and intake. the '88 had the 8.8 posi-trac rear end and hauls ass!!

the '83 is only bored .030 over, i wanted to swith heads, intake, etc, but couldn't afford it at the time. i've since put over 100,000 on it since the rebuild over 3 yrs ago, and haven't had so much as one single knock and it still runs as good as the day i put it in. the problems i've had haven't been with the motor itself (starter, relay, fusable links...) my '88 is gettin ready to be done tho. it's gonna get the full cobra conversion to it. hydrolic roller cam, pistons, lifters, cobra head, intake, zex nitrous. i'm heading to lowe's in the morning to buy some tubing to make my intake tube. its also gettin a chrom-moly (sp?) rollcage. i'm hoping to have it completly done by spring.

oh, and if you lookin for a turbo cat, you may want to look into the turbo 4 cougar for some parts. i'm looking at a wrecked '84 turbo cat. thinking bout some new pistons, port and polished head/intake, and a bigger turbo (or two!!).

the good T-bird from that year are the Supercoupes. I picked up a 91 Supercoupe (3.8l V6 with Eaton M90 Supercharger).. fun little (well, not so little ;)) cars.

If your wondering what mods you can do to it.. well, just open up a MM&FF magazine, and look at the 5.0 parts, and start picking! You can very easily build a 11 second T-bird with a simple heads/cam/blower-turbo-nitrous setup..and still be a big bodied street car ;)
