I was just wondering if those Mr2 side hole things that guys put on their hondas help or hurt a cars aerodynamics?
They look like they might just trap air pointlessly, but they have a similar scoop on mustangs. Yes, i know its considered rice, but can somebody give me an objective assertion of their effect?

It's a ram/cold air intake.

They actually do work for the MR2. The driver side feeds air to the air filter and passenger side brings air to the intercooler.

He's right. It is the top pic in Soarer's post. Have you ever seen a snorkel on a Mustang?

The air scoops on the side of Mustangs are probably for cosmetic purposes only though one possible use for them would be rear brake cooling.

MR2 scoops on mr2s are actually functional, they're used for air to the air filter.

On hondas they're useless and un-functional most of the time unless they were done to actually help and used to cool down the rear brakes, but most of the time its just used for Cosmetics.

just cosmetic. i think it's just a solid piece of plastic in the scoop...in other words, no air gets through.
