Accident Victim Says Movie Caused Crash (http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/1742977/detail.html)
Man Seeks More Than $25,000 In Damages

POSTED: 9:21 a.m. EST October 28, 2002

STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- An auto accident victim is suing the makers of the drag racing movie "The Fast and the Furious," saying the film encouraged teenagers to stage their own race, causing the double-fatal crash.

Robert R. Widdoss Jr., 42, of Henryville, was seriously injured on June 23, 2001 when his pickup truck was hit by one of two cars that he says were drag racing.

Two teenagers -- Dale F. Lockard II, of East Stroudsburg, and Steve Ayers Jr., of Clifton, N.J., both 19 -- were killed in the crash. The two were in the car that hit Widdoss head-on.

A friend of the boys, Daniel Gary Huffman, is named in the suit. Widdoss says Huffman was driving behind Lockard and Ayers and the two cars were drag racing.

Widdoss says in his suit, filed on Oct. 23 in Monroe County Court of Common Pleas, that the makers of "The Fast and the Furious" were accomplices to the drag race that he says preceded the wreck. Widdoss is suing for unspecified damages over $25,000.

The movie, which opened on June 22, 2001, features action star Vin Diesel and is about drag racing in Los Angeles. According to a police report, witnesses said there was no drag racing between the cars.

But Widdoss says it was racing that caused the crash. He suffered rib, hip, back and lumbar fractures among other injuries.

He can't win...

Jeez. So the people say they weren't streetracing. Hell, the police report itself says they weren't streetracing.

It's because your court fees are so damn small in the states.
I'd sue people night and day if I was down there.

But up here, even if you lose, you're paying like $2000 in fees.

Here's a silly lawsuit.

My buddy was walking out to his car from work, and talking to his girlfriend, who also happens to work where he does. They separated, and started walking to their separate cars. She said something, and he didn't hear it, so he stopped and turned around to ask her what she said. An old bag walking with her cane by him caught her cane on his shoe, fell, and broke her hip. Now she's suing my friend, his girlfriend, and his employer. People these days are so greedy for money they'll use any excuse to get some. It's disgusting. :grr: :smokin:

This is North America, people do all sort of stupid things and calls it their "rights".

My father was doing some legal contract work for a client; at the end, my dad sends his client a bill; received no money after 30 days, my dad sends out another bill and another 10 days later, still no money. Then my dad calls his client to see what is wrong and the client said, "see you in court!" A few weeks later, the mail came in with a letter from the client's lawyer saying that they're sueing my dad $50,000 for stress and harassment. Hmm, I thought we were supposed to sue them b/c they owe us money. Now they were sueing us b/c we sent out 2 bills and made a phone call?

I have to say that the worst fucking thing I heard someone suing for was the one who sued McD's for the coffee being "TOO HOT"!!! It is COFFEE..it is SUPPOSED to be HOT!!! I think they should have made her pay McD's for the time and anguish their lawyer had to go thru for sitting thru that stupid of a case!! But she won, and now McD's puts warning labels on it's coffee cups now. This is just ANOTHER example of idiots taking advantage of the system.

A gym was interviewing people to teach an aerobics class. Well this 300 pound woman applied for the job, but didnt get it. She sued the gym because she said that they were discriminating against her because she was fat. And she won. Now she works at the gym, and they can't fire her. Who the hell wants a 300 pound woman teaching a class thats supposed to help you loose weight and get into shape? It's really sad what people are doing for money. That woman couldnt just accept the fact that she wasnt the best person for the job.

The worst i heard about were

- the guy who put his cat in the microwave to dry him off after the bath. The cat exploded and its master sued the microwave company: he won.

- one woman got lung cancer after smoke for a little over 50 years. She sued the tobacco company for 2.2 billion dollars! and again she won.

on a personal level: in bumper to bumper traffic, my mother slighty touched the car in front of her because it braked very hard. The cars had no damage at all, no paint was off the bumpers. So the people in the other said they were ok and no problem. But 2 days later, they said that they had back injury and sued for 1 million dollars, they wouldn't let themselves be examined by any other doctor than their's. Don't know how it turned out.

I'm sueing ferrari because their cars are so expansive that I can't afford it. I consider that as social class discrimination.

I will settle for 2 F355 or 1 F50.

speaking of lawsuits, Nissan is sueing BMW for the use of "Z"

Chicago, Nov. 1 (Bloomberg) -- We'll Z you in court.

That was Nissan Motor Co.'s response after German rival Bayerische Motoren Werke AG started emphasizing the letter `Z' in ads for its Z3 and Z8 roadsters. A federal judge this week agreed to let Nissan proceed with a lawsuit that claims BMW infringed its 1990 trademark for the letter's use to promote ports cars.

Nissan is trying to protect an image that dates to 1969, when the inexpensive Datsun 240Z sports car it introduced to the U.S. helped tear down Americans' resistance to Japanese vehicles. Nissan resurrected the Z-car line in August after a six-year absence with the $30,000 350Z. Nissan has sold more than 1 million Z cars in the U.S. over the years.

"The use of `Z' is real important for Nissan,'' said Jim Hall, analyst at AutoPacific Inc. in Southfield, Michigan. "They were using Z-cars in advertising even when they weren't selling them here. It's that important to them for their image.''

A federal judge in Chicago declined to dismiss the case Oct. 28 and the two automakers are now trying to settle the matter out of court, Nissan spokesman Kyle Bazemore said. BMW has no commenton the case, spokeswoman Martha McKinley said.

Both Nissan and BMW promote their Z sports cars' performance to help increase total sales for their brands. BMW trademarked "Z3'' when it started selling that model in 1996 and its replacement, the $40,935 Z4, which went on sale on Oct. 26. The company also has a $132,000 Z8 model.

Nissan didn't object to the Z3 trademark prior to this year because BMW wasn't using a standalone Z, according to court documents. Last year, BMW started to refer to "Z-series'' cars and "Z-technology'' in advertising and Nissan sued to protect its trademark, the documents said. The judge disagreed with BMW's contention that Nissan waited too long to sue, the filing said. The next hearing in the case is Dec. 17.

For now, it's a case of wait-and-Z.

How about some updates on some of these lawsuits. It would be interesting to see if they won or just got laughed in their face. Plus I need some funny things to read about at work now. So slow here.

If I am reading this correctly, based on the $132,000 cost of a Z8, My Z1 should be worth $16,500, but on the other hand My Z28 is worth $462,000.
Datsun should be selling those !!!
