The other day I was on my way down HWY 17 on my way to work when I noticed a Yellow M3 in my rearview mirror. I didn't think much of it at first as M3's are pretty common on 17, especially during rush hour. So I continue on down 17 with the M3 behind me right until we get to the 17-85 interchange, where the traffic totally opened up (much to my surprise because this is where traffic usually grinds to a halt). Just as I'm about to speed up I hear someone revving at me off to the right. I look over and see the Yellow M3 pacing me with the driver smiling at me and giving me a thumbs up. At first I kind of wonder why he is doing this, then I notice that he has a NASA Pro Racing sticker identical to mine on his driver side rear window. Cool! A fellow Autocross/Road racer! So I smile back and give him a thumbs up too with a rev thrown in for the hell of it. He hears me rev and the smile on his face doubles in size. He revs back and points straight ahead. I figure I haven't run against an M3 for a long ass time, so I guess this is as good of a time as any to see how well my new mods will do against german precision. So I downshift and we both slow down to about 45mph as the M3 driver counts down from 3 with his fingers. As soon as he gets to 1, we both drop the hammer and take off doen the freeway. We are dead even for about 2 seconds until the M3 driver looks over at me and smiles, then downshifts and starts SPINNING the tires at 65mph before catching traction and leaving me like I was standing still.

Son of a bitch. I think I just bit off WAY more than I can chew. Oh well, at least I get an A for effort!

As he roars past me, I realize why he left me so damn easily. I hear telltale whine of the supercharger, which is affirmed by the DINAN badge on his rear deck lid. DAMN. I guess I should have known that the rollbar and boost gauge weren't just for show!

After opening a can of BMW flavored whopp-ass on me, the M3 slows down and I finally catch up to him and pull along side. I look over and give the guy a thumbs up and he just laughs and gives me one back. So we contnue side by side for a while until I come up on my exit for 280. As I begin to slow down to change lanes, I find myself right behind the M3 who is taking the same exit. Well, I know he can kick my ass in pretty much everything, but that doesn't mean we can't have some fun with the turns coming up. As soon as we get to the right turn heading on to 280, we both stay in the outside lane until the turn begins then, dropping to the inside, we both take a late apex through the corner and go wide open on to 280. (Well, I went wide open and he was probably at 1/4 throttle, but it just sounds cooler to say we both did.;)) As my exit approaches, I pull up next to the M3 and honk and wave, and he does the same, still smiling the whole time.

Even tohugh I got my ass handed to me, it was damn fun plying with a powerful car in my way to work!
