damnit, i just got my new car and its the first manual car i have owned (my first car was a 1992 dodge shadow haha). Whenever I am stopped at a light or whatever, I always have to give the car more gas then needed cos i am horrible at working the clutch - i always stall :( everyone keeps thinking i am revving on them and tryin to burnout like im racing but all im really trying to do is keep the car from dying!! Ahhh, im sick of getting flipped off and having ppl roll their eyes at me - how long does it take to get used to driving a stick!

It usually takes about 3 days of practice to get basic driving down, if that.

a day.

i was the same way with my first. id rather spin than stall. the best tip is to get more control over your right foot, it doesnt take much to bring the revs up enough when in neutral. let the clutch out slowly, im sure you know this, but what you probably do is let it out TOO slowly and still keep pressing the gas which causes your rpms to be way too high by the time your clutch actually grabs. for practice you need to start bring your revs up to around 1500-2000 and stop, then let the clutch out a moderate speed untill you fell it grab. then begin giving it more gas while finishing letting out the clutch. whether or not your spin tires or stall is centered around the accelerator. once you've started rolling, if you feel yourself start to bog down, give it more gas, if you can tell you will spin if you finish letting out the clutch, let off the gas a little and then the clutch. simple enough huh? :D

remember, when driving a manual, the line between utter awkwardness and second nature is almost non existant, youll get it, just keep practicing.

LMAO hey bro, its all good i'd imagine by the time you get this post you should be drivin' ur standard fine, but it does take practice. Its not hard just try this oppose to giving it alot of gas;

let off the clutch until your car starts moving forward (NO GAS), it should be like when you let off the brake in an automatic but give it no gas you know how, it goes forward? it should do that.

Then start to give it gas slowly from there, and as you push gas let off clutch!

there that is the 2 step way of driving a standard.

good luck.

Go to an empty parking lot and spend an hour there, thats all it should take. If you're really bad, go 2 or 3 times.

Well, mebbe if you can't figure out the standard thing properly, your driving seems like racing all the time, so mebbe you could have a career in racing...jk
