how do these work compared to stock transmissions? are they worth the investment? do they add horsepower? what drivetrain would it be better for?
you have to be more specific. is it for drag racing? is it an auto of manual?

I'll include both because you didn't say what transmission it was.
A racing automatic transmission:
-Put a high stall torque converter
-valves open sooner so it shifts faster (shift kit)
A racing manual transmission:
-high performance clutch (racing)
-shafts and gears are closer and shift smoother combined with the right rear end, you get a fast quarter mile car
Just to sum it up, a stock transmission has a longer distance between 2nd and 3rd gears. A race transmission, the gears are closer together to shift faster and smoother.
