i jsut installed my rockford deck the other night. Heres the situation. On the wiring harness coming from the deck, theres a wire for Remote amp turn on (asking for a 400mA MAX fuse), but there is no wire for that coming from my car, so i spliced it with the Ignition wire, which i believe has a 15A fuse under the dash. I noticed if i put the keys in the ignition and listen to the deck, then start the car while the deck is on, instead of shutting off when the car is starting, it stays on. Sometimes when im driving and i turn up the stereo, i smell something like plastic burning. Another thing that happens, is when i shut off my engine and pull the key out, the stereo keeps playing, until i turn it off. So the stereo can play with the key out of the ignition, just as long as it was playing before you took the keys out, but if you turn it off, you cant turn it back on, unless you put the keys back in the ignition in the Acc position. Would the burning smell have anything to do with the wiring, the fact that the stereo constantly stays on when the engine is turning over, or the fact that it keeps playing uninterrupted when i shut the car off??

oh my.........where to start.......the wire from your car is the ignition wire....it goes to the RED wire on the deck.......the YELLOW wire is the constant power wire........these are both 12V going INTO the deck.......the BLUE wire(remote amp turn on)...is a 12V OUTPUT.....which tells the amp to turn on........what you smell is the remote ouput section being FRIED....you have it set up so that it tries to put out 400mA but instead it's recieving 15A.......so basically, if you ever hook an amp to this unit, chances are it's not going to work......

as for the keys things, lots of cars do stuff like that from the factory....i wouldn't worry about it....

hmmmmmm. shit. So is what youre saying is that i shouldnt have spliced that wire to anything on my deck at all, and it was meant to go straight to an external amp?? I think i get it. I spliced a 12V input onto a 12V output so theres conflicting currnt right? Goddamit, oh well, it was cheaper than $100, and is still under 90 day warranty, maybe i can do something with that. I think I better get the volt reader and see if its completely fried. Thanks alotfor the info
