something smells fishy, The car pictured is a GT-R but I don't believe these pictures were taken in the US, and f they were the vehicle is non compliant to US laws according to the photos taken. First tip off is the japanese newspaper for floor mats, ok I can understand that. Second tip off is all the crayon on the windshield. Third and most definate tip off is that the speedometer still reads in kph, not mph. One of the mandates to make the vehickle compliant for US use is that the speedometer must read in MPH and can have both on it, but cannot be kph only. The Stereo is the Factory Clarion unit. which in stock form is a nice stereo, but not in the US. Japanese FM stations only tune in to 90.0 mghz above that the radio won't pick anything up. Someone driving a $56,000 car in the US has a few extra dollars in their pocket to have the stereo swapped for a unit they can listen to on US frequencies. Another thing is MotoRex would have removed the AFC because it would cause it to fail the emissions test. also notice there are no license plates at all on the car, not that they were photoshopped out, there are no plates on the vehicle at all. Just smells fishy to me.

is it just me or do skylines remind anyone else of Fox body(87-93) mustangs?
That Pic is for real that is in Milpitas California, look at the chevron stuff in the back, that place is near Mcarthy Ranch and I-237 in California, i hear people say that skyline i slow, but i have never seen them run... Too bad, this gives Skylines such a bad name..
tc..those pics were taken at the local chevron off of 237 in milpitas..that car is a gtr vspec...i saw it out there a few times..and the first night it was out at lundy around november..it raced a white supra and got spanked a couple of times..and i was standing right at its bumper when it lined up.
sorry but those pics are real.

Do me a favor then, the next time you see the car, take a look on the left hand side of the windshield for a small 3 inch silver vin plate, it will be on the piller and will say US Customs or something US on it. and it will have a number like this BNHCR33-XXXXX That will prove if it is legal or not, and if it isn't please give the guy my e-mail address cause its a Skyline that got in Country without doing customs work, and I want to know how he got it in!!!

Well today I was putting up Merdian, and I saw a wierd blue car, I thought it was a Subaru 2.5RS untill I saw the driver sitting on the right side, adn a big GT-R in the grill. I flipped a u-turn, and took some pics, but because my digi-cam is a POS they didnt' save. Well, It was a R22 V-spec, (red valvcover) It was in a cool deep blue, and had gun-metal grey wheels, that were like 17'2, or 18's. It had a dark grey interior, and to top it all off there were Washington plates on it. The driver said that he had had it for about 6-mo. I wish I had the pics to prove this, but they didn't come out (fuggind pos digi-cam, wich is now fixed) I am not into Skylines all that much, but I saw it with my own eyes. Feel free to quiz me on it :) BTW, I liked the strut tower brace, it had a welded nut in the middle that adjusted the amount of tension on the bar. I think I am going to steal that idea and use it on my datsun :)

My buddy in LA purchased a GTR Vspec last year through Motorex.. Super nice car.. and riding in the drivers seat ( In America at least ) is a weird feeling!! But I would have to go with LT, I would want something else for the money, based on the fact that my buddy spent TONS of cash bringing that car over, and it attracts a LOT of attention :)

Does an R22 look anything like the old Skyline hatchbacks/fastback? I've seen some pics of old two-door Skyline hatchbacks/fastbacks (I'm not sure what to call them but they resembled a 1967 Mustang Fastback) from the 1970s and frankly, I LOVED it!!! You know, if you could find a Skyline built before 1975, you should be able to import it without any restriction! Hey, it may be old but at least you could say you owned a real Skyline without talking out your ass!

K I am serious about this, i want to talk to folks that got the cars in the US through means other than MotoRex. If the individual got the vehicle in I want to know how. Take my e-mail address with you and give it to him even if it did come through MotoRex, cause beleive me I can get parts cheaper than he can get in the US and I can ship them for half what it would cost through the japanese .

Honestly, the Skyline isn't that stylish, looks like an overgrown Subaru Impreza. That car's body style is pre-historic. I was cruising through Orlando one night and saw what looked to be a Skyline. But I was wrong, it was an older model Maxima with a body kit similar to the Skyline. Maybe that Camaro just beat a Maxima, that isn't all that spectacular. Think about it, you bring a skyline over, what are you going to do for regular maintenance parts? This country doesn't carry them. It makes no sense to have a Skyline unless you are looking to spend some big bucks on something that is big time slow for the $$$. Just my .02

from what i could see.....the guy was a japanese guy..... it's right hand drive in japan...obviously...so if he was driving in japan before....he would have no problem....but the skyline did seem slow.....and they went like 1/10 of a quater mile before the Z28 stopped

You do realize that in order to import a Skyline here and
have it all licensed and 100% street legal, they had to add
a shitload of safety crap and smog stuff, right?
So if you figure in the extra weight from the safety crap,
and the more restrictive catalytic converters and intake/
exhaust parts, that right there makes the imported Skyline
a lot slower than it would be stock in Japan. Now think
about the lower octane fuel we have here, the highest you
get at normal gas stations is 92 octane unleaded. I think
in Japan and other countries they run higher octane fuel.
Now if this is true, that means you'd hafta restrict how
much boost the Skyline runs here, or else using the 92
octane fuel may not be enough to prevent detonation.
All in all, it's no surprise to me that the imported
Skyline is not as fast as people would think or expect.
So yes, it's not really worth buying an imported Skyline,
because of the costs, and because it doesn't perform as
well as it should. But whatever, owning a Skyline here
in the US still gives you baller status, just look at the
crowd of people it draws when it comes out. So it's all
good if you've got the money.

Nope, read on

There is no extra smog equipment added to a stock skyline being imported. As far as door beams and bumper supports, the weight is less than 200 lbs.

This you hit right on the head, this is where the Skyline becomes legal to drive and smog able. The Stock Nissan computer has 2 fuel maps in it, one that runs for high octane fuel, and one for low. The high octane map is loaded when first running the car, and meters accordingly until knock is detected, then the low octane map kicks in. Because Japanese Premium gas is 100 octane and low is 92 octane the computers maps are retuned to run the lower grade fuels in the US.

So, why doesn't the USA switch to higher grade gasoline? If the "Greeners" care so damn much about the environment, why don't they push it? Doesn't higher grade gasoline burn cleaner?

in addition to the additional weight....the skyline had a full car.....3 extra people.....the Z28 only had the driver
hey joey....how's it going long time no see......still going on weekends???

Hey integ'97, how's SLO? I haven't been to the races in
a while, I don't go often anymore. Too many cops and no
new tracks. Plus it gets pretty cold out there sometimes
even super foggy. Being a California boy, I hate the
cold ;)
But yeah, all that extra weight does come into play. Like
TheCamel said, those replacement bumpers weigh 200 lbs.
That's a little more than your average passenger.
Try adding a passenger to your car when racing, it _does_
noticably slow you down. :(
