If you get pulled over by a cop and he finds that your O2 sensor isn't there your gonna be in trouble.

Plus, pulling the oxygen sensor lead will throw a code and put the car into open loop "limp home" mode, guaranteed.

what exactly is limp home mode? is that where the car won't start or only uses a a few cylinders for power? My friend's boat has a feature where if he gets too low on gas it only uses four cylinders (instead of 8) to get him to a dock before the gas runs out, is it something like that?

Do you really think a cop is going to look for a sensor to make sure that it is connected?:haha:

Normally, at idle and part throttle, EFI cars run in "closed loop" mode, where they use a base table to determine how much fuel to inject, modified by the data being received from the oxygen sensor. When the ECU figures out that it's not getting good information any more, it stores a code, turns on the check engine light, and goes into "open loop". But it's generally not the good kind of open loop operation you get at wide open throttle - it's a very conservative map designed to get you out of the desert without destroying the engine. The only performance benefit is that you don't end up a dessicated corpse alongside the interstate because your car won't run.

Yeah, I've been stuck in "limp-home mode" (open loop) and the exhaust was black I was running so rich and wasting so much fuel. Your stock ECU doesn't even rely on the O2 sensors at WOT anyways so do yourself a favor and leave it in there.
