I just responded in your other post. Its IROC Camaro. Z28 Camaros and IROC Camaros are two seperate trim levels. I would recommend the 350 (5.7L) engine, it has the best performance potential. Please dont buy a Camaro until you learn more about how they work, I dont want to see another kid wreck a (future) collector car.

I think you mixed "IROC Z" and "Z28" to form "IROC Z28". But yes, mullet Camaros are great. Very cheap, most for sale right now have the v6, or the 305 at best. But a 350 (or larger) in them would work out well.

I used to own a 84 Z-28 with the 305, That car was alot of fun for the two days i had it, i was spanking every honda in sight. Like Moloko said, if you get this car know what your driving, its no civic or celica this car will break your kneck when you punch it. Correct me if i am wrong but i think the 5.7 liter T.P.I. 350 is the same engine in the Older Vettes? Anywhoo, if you think you can handel this car then get it, just rember its very fast, very powerful. I HIGHLY suggest you drive the car around for about 2-3 weeks just messing around to get used to the power and what the car is capible of. Goodluck, nice choice of a car (GET A 5 Speed IF YOU CAN FIND ONE! VERY RARE)

i was wondering how hard it is to convert a iroc-z from automatic transmition to standard. my friend has one, which he is selling. this will become a project car for me and my dad, if we buy it. we will need the engine to be rebuilt, and it needs interior cosmetic work, exterior, etc.
i want my next car to be a stick, and i need to know if there is somewhere where we can buy a transmition to fit. I havent looked around much, and im just starting to find info.
thanks :-]

The 305 is a pathetic engine. Very weak, very slow, very crappy.
The 350 is good but it only comes with an auto tranny.
There's nothing wrong with an auto and they're great for drag racing.
Iroc-Zs with a 350 are decent cars and are definately a base to start making a fast car with.

Yea, IROC-Z's are great cars to start out with. The 350 is a good engine with a very large aftermarket. An automatic to manual conversion can be quite pricey, whether or not you are doing it yourself. And since you're planning to rebuild the engine, here is what I suggest you do (it's also what I am planning to do). Get a 3rd gen Camaro with a manual tranny, swap out the 305 and swap in a 350. This way you'll have the manual tranny you want, plus you'll have a brand new 350. Head over to http://www.thirdgen.org for more info on this very popular swap.

Angel5, the Iroc-z did come with a 5 speed trannie, it is a very rare find. The 5 speed Iroc-z is out there tho....http://www.autotrader.com/findacar/vdetail.jtmpl?car_id=102633217&dealer_id=&certified=n&max_price=10000&start_year=1982&end_year=1992&address=33043&search_type=used&make=CHEV&model=CAM&min_price=100&distance=any&advcd_on=n&advanced=n&first_record=26&=&color=&car_year=1988 this link to a autotrader listing proves that the iroc-z was made in 5 speed...

All IROC-Z's with a manual tranny had 305's, none had 350's.

As addicted2speed has stated, the only ones that come with manual transmissions are the ones that are coupled to a 305. They are not rare in any way and they suck ass.
They're not worth it because a 305 third gen these days would be around a low 17 second car. Hardly what I'd call remotely close to fast.

150hp breaks your neck? You have leprosy or something?

Now there's some bad advice.

With my Z-28 the car was beefed up a bit and had a very weird trans, when id punch it this is what it would do, it would rev up a little bit and then just kick in, the kid that gave it to me said he put a high preformance trannie in it, and Angel5, i know you love Mustangs but i smoked my dads g/f's 1990 5.0 Droptop 25th anv. And yes i have to agree with you, the 305 does lick nuts all day every day, when i suggest the 5 speed i was under the impression that the 350 came with a 5 speed trannie, and i was told that the 5 speed Iroc-z is rare.
Thank you for correcting me and teaching me somthing new :)
Don't bother with a 5-speed swap. Only low-powered cars (Civics/Integras) need manuals. With a 350, just floor it and go. Shifting would probably slow down your times.
