my friend bought one that didn't start for $400. After 12 hours of tinkering (he's an Electrical engineer and has done several motor swaps) it still didn't start, so he sold it on ebay for $500. If you do get one that runs, if it breaks, it's gonna be hella hard and expensive to find replacement parts as is the case with most alltrac Toyotas.

I test drove one a while back. I think it was a '91. The interior space, power, feel, everything about it was almost identical to the 87 rx7 turbo that I had. I liked it and would have bought it if the guy was asking a reasonable price, it was $12k and that was less then 2 years ago.
I don't know if this is a typical problem but it didn't want to shift into 1st gear. I think it was a worn out syncro.

parts are not hard to find. www.alltrac.net has alot of parts listed for sale. the downfall is changing the clutch will require ripping the engine out. i dunno me and another local guy were talking about it and he kidded that we were talking about swapping motors as though we were changing wheels or abttery or somethin. just like it was nothin and it really isnt. takes time work and $$ tools etc but its not a big deal. if it is a big deal dont buy a project.
the 3sgte parts from the mr2 will crossover on many items. i dunno what do you want to do with the car? if it was here i would buy it.
Oh great now you tell me this stuff after i was tricked into doing a clutch job on a turbo altrak lolz... i should have known to ask PC first hehe.
Yes the clutch job is a bitch... it can be done at home on the garage floor, but you will wish you had paid a shop to do it by the time you get the engine out. i actually felt the mr2 motor was easier to drop when i was finally done. at least the mr2 motor/tranny is alot lighter, that transfer case will break your back.
i was actually looking at the engine after i was done and the mr2/altrak engines look like they swap very easily other then a few surface differences. i would only buy this car if you have alot of time, money and room to work on it, looks like it would be a fun car to drive and a nice project. -Ninja
