The preludes seem like great cars but some asshole at the dealership told her that personally he wouldnt sell one to a 16 year old because he said he got one up to 150 on a track. Ive been tryin to convince her that most cars do get up to 150 and probably faster. She just thinks that if Im gonna get a car capable of that, that im gonna do it on back roads and all over the place. Honestly Im scared shitless of goin 150 if I wasnt on a straight course. Just give me some info on the safety of these cars and what yall think. The other big option I have is an eclipse.
4 wheel abs
drive/passenger air bag
double wishbone suspension
atts (in the sh model)
as far as saftey that's all i can think of
btw: stock turbo eclipse vs stock prelude = eclipse is faster.
if they won't let you have to lude they won't let you have the eclipse :)

Well my moms already looked at the eclipses and she likes em. She doents know to much bout em and the salesmen havent been assholes and told her that they wont seel em to a 16 year old. Also I probably wouldnt be gettin a 2g eclipse. Id be gettin a 3g hopefully a gt.

the guy is BSing you if he's claiming he got a stock Prelude up to 150. 150 is a real hard speed to attain on a FWD sport compact. But I still wouldn't recommend a 16 year old getting a prelude, you're insurance will be killer and probably tear it up and it'll be expensive to get looking good again or it'll blow your insurance through the roof.

for the 4th gen SI model is 135ish
for the v-tec 4th gen it's 150
for the 5th gen v-tec it's like 152ish give or take a few mph
please don't post up if you don't know what you are talking about thank you bye

interesting...never really looked into that. I am now curious if the 4th gens come with steel cages as well. Did you see the thread in the general chat about hte prelude that went off the cliff and did a buncha flips etc etc? his cage was still intact (kinda lol). He had a 4th gen like me. *hmmm*
must find out! :bam:

are you referring to preludemark's thread? if so, yeah I saw that. kinda crazy huh?
As the the steel cage design, I'm guessing it saved me once already. I hit a car on the freeway that crashed and didn't have its blinkers on (stupid 16 year old). Anyways, I was going 70ish and probably hit it going 50ish hitting my drivers side fender and door. Everyone in my car was safe. My frame barely moved (quarter inch I think). Still drives fine today. :)
crazy!!! It's the small things most people take for granted.

I think Matt and I are biased towards the lude. Each have their pluses and minus (dang obdII). Do some more research on the cars before deciding. There are known problems for each of those cars.

thanx for the websites. And ya I know insurance is gonna be high, but on any newer car that im lookin at its gonna be high.
I personally don't care for the 3rd gen eclipses (v6 fwd) no turbo?
if you do get an eclipse get a 2nd gen turbo. Preludes are great cars in my opinion. Take each one for a test drive and see what YOU like the best.

Ya ive driven the 3g eclipses but never the 2g eclipse or lude. Weve had honda's before so we know they're reliable. Although it was a 95 accord so it was a different car but from what I understand all hondas are pretty reliable and built well.

Dont ask me, He was tryin to sell me a civic and talkin to my mom about how safe they were. And she knows I hate civics so she saw me wanderin off towards the prelude and she asked him how much for it and he said well I wont sell those to a 16 year old.

me too :hi: preludes are the best, and prelude drivers are the cutest (right guys?)! seriously though, before getting the lude, look into insurance, because if you are being listed as a primary driver and you want full coverage, insurance will rape you. good luck
civic are no more or less safer then preludes are. Civics are just slower...they have drum brakes in the read too...so technically the lude is safer :p

Seems like a decent guy who chose his beliefs over money... And he's keeping a wannabe sports car out of the hands of a wannabe racer. Good for him.

A car salesman that is honest, and doesn't want to make money but rather save a kid, dont see that often.

i've taken the V6 3rd Gen Eclipse for a test drive, a 99 eclipse GS for a test drive, and a 98 GST for a test drive. Haven't been able to get into the Prelude yet, the honda dealerships around here are rude to me, whatever...probably cause i drive a nissan...:p
anyways, the GST is the best in my opinion, the 3rd Gen Eclipse isn't as bad as most people thing, and the GS is a piece of shit, slowest car i've ever driven...
