hey guys..

i have a 96 accord lx.. the only performance mod i've done to it is have an aftermarket exhaust welded onto it.. nothing else.. it's that time for me to renew my registration so i need to get it smogged sometime next week.. i'm just wondering if i'll have problems passing smog..

oh btw, i was wondering if you guys know anything about this stuff i've heard about.. like you put it in your car before you drive and it's guaranteed to pass the smog? well, let me know.. thanks..

u should be ok..though alot of it depends how much of a dick the person smogging your car is..as far as that bottle passing stuff im not sure but supposively it works..one thing to do though is drive your car for about anhour and get the cat realy hot then take it to the place to get it smogged..good luck!

will i be able to pass the visual check?

also, just curious, why is it important to get the cat really hot before i get it smogged? thanks.

If the cat isn't at full operating temperature, it doesn't get rid of all the pollutants in your exhaust stream or whatever it does. That's why a lot of turbo kits have trouble getting 50-state legality because since the turbo takes up some exhaust gas, not all of it runs out the muffler, so it's harder for the cat to reach its full operating temperature. I think it's known as cat light-off time or something.

Anyway, you should be able to pass the visual because as long as your exhaust is connected to the cat, it won't affect your emissions, just noise output.

thanks for the advice on the cat.. i'll just run my car for a while before i bring it to get smogged..

i didn't modify the cat or anything, only had an aftermarket (ansa) exhaust installed.. i'm thinking that it should be alright.. but i'm still kind of worried.. is there any other precautions i should know about? thanks.

If you just have a muffler on a stock cat back your not going to have a problem passing..

however I am unsure of your other mods..

But I'll put it this way, I passed with full racing headers last year. How?

Ran HIGH Octane with a Octane Booster, Good plugs and spark wires.. and a good timing Degree.. what I tell everyone to do is, run the car for a good 20 mins on the fwy or something, that will get the cat all hot, keep it running while you wait to get smog'd, again keeping mr cat nice in hot.

you should have NO problem..
