View Full Version : harley vs crotch rocket
what are the pros and cons for theses
what is more safer reliable for a beginner/sorta can ride a dirt bike and sc00ter
Harley= $$$$$$, and VERY heavy. (cool if you're over 40 :p ).
Crotchrocket= $$$, fairly light, may not like the seating position, not as forgiving if you make a mistake as the UJMs are.
UJM (Universal Japanese Motorcycle)= $, light, more upright seating position. Probably the best type of bike to learn on. (Honda Nighthawk, Suzuki GS500/SV650)
But, then again, I'm biased. :p :p :p

Harleys are really heavy, period. It's a pain just to hold them up at stoplights. And if you drop one in your driveway, have fun picking it up. Harley technology is old, and outdated. Only the newest ones are starting to put the oil filter *before* the bad oil hits your engine.
Little sport bikes, such as a Ninja, or CBR are fun, easy to get on and whip around on. They're much lighter, and their engines are smaller. (most anyway)
They can be a little more dangerous because they're so easy to whip around on.
Standards, such as the GS500E and SV650(S) are great bikes to learn on. You sit more upright and feel more comfortable on them. Great to develop your skills with. You can easily hop on one and go, but they aren't usually as sporty and tossable as sport bikes.
I would go with a standard to start, then as the years go on and your skills develop you can switch over to a cruiser or a sport bike.
Go through the numerous other threads to see which bikes are good beginner bikes since it's been covered 100 times.

I just bought my first bike this saturday and it was pretty fun to go around w/ it.....eventhough I can't revv it up yet reached 7K rpm and it feels pretty fast...also, it seems like those harley guys don't give me one of those "bike waves." I guess it's a sport bike gesture...it's cool someone gives you props...
I'm gonna put a link to my bike later....peace out

I'm talking about cruisers here as Harley can't make a sportbike.
Harley Negatives:
Too expensive
Too heavy
Too antiquated
Too unreliable
Too loud
Too uncomfortable to ride
Harley Positives:
...............Um, there aren't any. Just a anme and nothing more.
Import Negatives:
Depending upon where you live, dealerships and service may be a long way away.
Import Positives:
Reasonable costs
Good power to weight
Modern efficient design in engine and chassis
Reliable
Sweet exhaust note
Very comfortable ride due to technological advancements
Just something to ponder.
