Okay guys I am looking into buying a bike.
I have driven a harley many times and also my friends katana 600 but the other day the katana got wrecked and now I am looking into getting my own bike but the question is with my years experience in riding these two bikes do you think I would be better off with a
GSXR-600 or should I go for the GSXR-750. I like Suzuki and am going to stick with them but I just dont know what I should get.
Opinions????

No GSXR is for a novice rider no matter its size. Go for a Katana 750 if you want more power - it has all you need.

BTW: Suzuki is my favorite bike company too - but I still have a thing for Triumph.
If you are set on Suzuki, check out the SV650...

I learned on the SV650S, it's an excellent bike and it's fast enough for most beginners. It's the one with the fairing, the SV650 doesn't have one which can suck if you're doing any highway riding. It's more comfortable than a GSXR and you don't outgrow it that quickly. It runs 12's in the quarter too. :)
Get the GSXR 750, my ZX6R is cool but I'm already wanting a GSXR 750. This was my first sport bike and the first time I road a sport bike was when I drove it home about 3 months ago. 155 mph top end is too slow and I want some 5th gear wheelies!

Only a squid would recommend a GSXR-750 to a newbie, c'mon! And you expect me to believe you have outgrown a 600 in 3 months? LOL, only if your last name was Hayden! I guess it's possible, but not likely! :p Have a nice day!
P.S. bike size is similar to dick size, the biggest dick in the world won't help if you don't know what to do with it!;)

155mph Is too slow? Oh ya, I just hate it when I'm going 155 on those 5 days a year I actually get to. It just seems like I'm barely moving. *thwap*
You'll be ok, kiddie.

Ah, I love the bullshit talk that a lot of new riders spew out. Hey, I love a GSXR 750 but a GSXR 600 is more than enough for me right now. You see, immature males get stupid because they wanna show off how "bad" they are on bikes they do not know how to control and wind up wrecking the bike at best, or getting killed at worst! I have a friend of mine who has ridden a GSXR 750 for years and he's man enough to admit the Hayabusa 1300 is too much bike for him. This admission does not make him "less of a man" as newbie riders think it wound. Grow up! Have some fun on a bike, thats what they are all about. Stop trying to impress others.....we really don't give a shit anyway.
Scourge:(
PS. ANyone who says they can tell the difference between say, 155mph and 140mph on a bike is full of crap! You get over say 110, its ALL FAST!!!!
My bad you guys are always right what am I doing trying not agree with the masters of the discussion boards. If you read her post it didn't sound to me like she was a beginner rider. I wouldn't have bought anything other than a 600 for my first bike but I would definately want a 750 about now.

You don't have to agree with us, but saying 155mph is too slow is really kinda stupid. People rarely get get to go that fast and no one really needs to. I live in a place where I could ride 155mph every day if I wanted to (barring getting killed or cops), but hitting 100-120 from time to time suffices.

Here are some things that are NOT directed to any one particular person. Bear them in mind when choosing your motorcycle and evaluating your own level of skill.
Common fallacies beginners make about the motorcycles and the motorcycle culture.
1) Having a brand new sportbike as a first bike will automatically make you look cool to other riders.
This is one that any motorcyclist learns before buying their first bike. In fact having the latest and greatest sportbike as your first bike makes you look really STUPID in front of people who have been riding for awhile.
2) Immediately modifying your sportbike with the trickest horsepower gain equipment makes you look cool.
The motorcycle community is NOT the car community. Modifying a bike does not have the effect of coolness to the other riders like modifying a car does to car club members, unless you are in a Harley club. The modifications that REALLY look cool are those created on your sliders from scraping a turn.
3) Sportbike riders ride motorcycles to be faster in the quarter mile.
Sportbikes have a very good power to weight ratio. The acceleration is mostly a by product of the bikes design. Sportbikes were designed to go around CORNERS, and to tear up the canyons. Racing cars is ridiculous, there's no point unless the car driver is really asking for it. This fallacy, of course, is null when talking about drag bikes.
4) Riders can't tell if you are a beginner.
Any experienced rider can immediately tell if you are a squid just by looking certain points on your bike.
5) The Motorcycle safety class is unneccessary and is only for dorks.
This class will actually teach you the PROPER way to ride a motorcycle and lessen the chances of looking like a dork when running into the back of a car because of lack of experience in avoiding emergency situations.
6) 600cc sportbikes are beginner bikes.
The fact is, today's new batch of 600s have as much power as a 750 of just 2-5 years ago. They also are less forgiving because of their more aggressive steering geometry, light weight, and high power to weight ratio.(R6, ZX-6, and yes, F4i) Go to any Yamaha shop and ask them how many R6's are in the back from crash damage, you will never hear 0.
7) The type of motorcycle you ride reflects how fast you are.
I have seen more squids on GSXRs, R1s, and R6s get eaten up in the canyons by riders on old F2s, and even 500cc single cylinder KTM Dukes. The bike does NOT make you faster. Practicing does.

what class in AFM do you race afmsquid?
Im thinking of joining but the race school is supposed to be real tough to get into, too many heads, not enough room.

Damnit, are you sure you know how to ride? hehehehe! Fellas like this ZX6R guy are the reason my insurance on my bike was so damn high. I can't wait until some chick on a 250 Ninja shows him how poorly he rides when she smokes his ass through a canyon! hehehehe, what a moron! :D
I have been riding motorcycles (mostly dirt bikes) for half my life and still haven't got the skill needed for complete mastery of the new GSXR, and this squid has outgrown a ZX-6R in three months? I must have a learning disablity! LOL!:p

I've been riding for 9 years now, and I know I could get smoked by someone with a lot more talent and experience than me, but that's ok. It's like the streetracing scene, you don't expect to have an unbeatable car, so why think your new bike is going to beat everyone?
There is so little motorcycles around here anyway, and no mountains to be seen so drag racing is all I have.

I was supposed to be racing in 250 production class (i.e. Ninja 250s not nsr250s) but I missed qualifying for the license because my company sent me on a project in Chicago for a couple months. 250 production is probably the easiest to get into because it is probably the cheapest. All bikes must be basically completely stock, except for the tires. It's a real good way to develop riding skills.

I'm so sorry jexser, your right, your a pimp and I'm just a loser. I spend all my time on discussion boards acting like I know how to ride instead of acutally riding just so I look cool. If you knew how to read I never said anything about outgrowing my bike all I said is that I want a GSXR 750. I don't get why people have to such fags on discusion boards. Does it help your self esteem to try and be a big man and talk shit? Your comments are useless.

Bro, my whole point is that you are going to get yourself or someone else killed with this mentality. It's not about 5th gear wheelies, it's about sticking that bitch in a curve and ginding off your sliders! My whole point is that you need to work on being a better rider, rather than 5th gear wheelies. Be safe Bro, and don't kill yourself!

hey, greg has been down hard, hung with the best, and followed the "safety first rule," so ill show ya some sqid. its not what bike you have, its what you do with it; and do it safe. dont start higher than 6, and dont even consider the name SUZUKI (well unless it isnt follwed by G-S-X-R). this is a reply to the main topic, thoguh whoever wrote it probably doesnt read it. hey lets start trouble: Haga or Hayden? my answer HAGA!!!!!! peace. -Greg
I know it's not about 5th gear wheelies, I was just messing around when I was saying that. I know sarcasm doesn't come through the computer but I just don't like how people always jump to conclusions, if your last post would have been your first I would have a lot more respect for you. Luckily where I live we have a nice run through niles canyon that's about 5 minutes from my house that we hit up at least a couple times a week and of course skyline. Wheelies are fun but it's all about the twisties. It's all in the hood drinking Gin and Juice with your homies.

I am a big Suzuki fan, but Mladin is on his way out IMO. Hayden is the force to be delt with in the future, I will say that after he's finished no one else will hold a candle to him!

IMO, hayden needs to leave that AMA b.s., and up to world superbike. Haga is out this year, but Okada is on the come up, so watch for him next year. Either way, Haga impressed the shit out of me last year, and though hayden has skills, i still think if Haga gets off the ladies, he could smoke a lot out there. he deserved the title last year, and shouldnt have had his points snatched. that pretty much ruined his year. roberts received the gift of haga's points. Mladin is dope too though.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, when Yamaha decides to let Gobert ride in world superbike, he'll smoke all of the above just like the weed that got him kicked out twice. But if I were to choose, it would be Hayden, since Haga is doing GP's now, but if Haga were in world superbike, he would be my choice.

I got to agree, haga is the man, and if he wasnt pushed to GP he would still be whooping ass. Gobert, he is great too, I think better than either Hayden. I think it depends on what class they're racing. SBK is big in the USA as is AMA. GP is actually alot bigger in he rest of the world, and Haga is over there. Maybe thats why all of the american guys continue to do only ama and sbk, cause its not like GP, where its huge in other countries like europe and australia, and based in those countries.
but yeah, HAGA.

damn, i put the wrong name up there, did anyone catchit? roberts, hehehehe. getting leagues twisted there.
Someone mentioned CBR600s earlier in this thread; are these really good for a 1st bike? I looked at one at a dealer (96 F3 I think), I've ridden some enduro 250s before, but nothing streetlegal. I doubt I'd be able to afford to trade up for at least 2-3 years, so I don't want to get something I'll get bored with, but on the other hand, the riding posture on this bike is kinda wierd to me (seems too narrow) and I don't want to get something too quick when I'm just learning.
Some people have said the 600F3 is a good starter bike, others say to get something smaller. Opinions on this?
(WFIW, I'm 20, 6'1" 210lbs)
Thanks all...
I LOVE my bike and definitely recommend one for you if you cant afford a new one. Lots of people recommend a 250 Ninja or something small for your first bike...But you probably will get tired of its lack of accelaration pretty quick. ANY bike is dangerous...if you think you handle a 600,go for it! Just be careful and dont try to outride your abilities.
