View Full Version : Octane Question...
What octane do you guys run in your bikes? I am hearing contradicting things about whether or not premium (92) is the best...I would assume that the higher octane is good due to the high compression, but I hear that the additives in it are bad...?!
My bikes running 12.5 to 1 Compression, I would be scared to hear what that sounded like with anything less that 92. Damn bike is taking almost $8 to fill the tank, time to move out of the Bay Area

you arent supposed to use anything but 92 on 99% of bikes out there. if you use below, you are risking a good knocking of the engine. it will sound like a ticking time bomb.

how much mileage can you get on a full tank of gas?
Depends on how I ride...if Im just using it for cruising...i can get up tp 150 miles before I have to switch to the reserve tank.

In NJ I had an F3 that ran better on regular (87 or 89) than it did on premium (93 there).
Here in SoCal my F4 runs like crap on anything less than 92.
In otherwords, it depends on how it's carburated. Try it and see, but most likely you're gonna need the good stuff, due to the high compression.
Since I only have to put in 3 gallons at a time, I don't mind the high prices. I get between 115-130 miles before my fuel light comes on.
(Just rolled over 600 miles! Time to get an oil change, then open up the throttle)
