Whats power shifting and whats speed shifting?

It is something you don't really want to do unless you have a spare tranny :)

Speed shifting is just shifting really fast (from what I understand) and power shifting is shifting while keeping your foot on the gas while clutching and changing gears. Just don't do it because it is not good on your transmission.

Hey civic-rida I have a 240sx too. To get up your gears quickly and pwoer shift at the same time you can do this with out burning your clutch entirely as regular power shifting. Regular power shifting is like CoNFuSioUs2002 mentioned (foot on gas and clutching and changing gears. Simply rev or redline your 240sx in high rpm in first and when shifting to second gear ease of the gas so you are just toughing the gas pedal very lightly with your foot or not at all. Then quicky hit the clutch and change gears. Then release the clutch fast and pound the gas. You got to really kick the clutch to bark your tires into second. Third is a little harder but it will come with practice. I could only power shift right up into third, but my 240sx is bone stock.

Remember when doing this you are stressing your tranny, so don't say I didn't tell you.

Peace.

Powershifting helps to get you higher in gear upshifting. For example, in my lude stock, if you just shifted into 2nd, I'd be under VTEC, but with a little more gas with the shift, I can be in VTEC the whole time.
I've also heard powershifting as clutchless shifting, where you just jam from gear to gear (saves the 1/4 sec shift time). Man i've heard of lost of gears getting messed up with that.....

Powershifting- Shifting gears (using the clutch) without lifting off of the throttle.

Speedshifting- Shifting gears without using the clutch. Thsi requires an VERY good knowledge of your car as there is only about a 500RPM window on most cars where this can be done.

Double clutching is an almost forgotten art form. It's from back in the day when manual tranny's were not syncro meshed. It is also usefull if you miss a shift, keep you from jacking up your trans/motor. For down shifting an older trans, you would push the clutch in, pop out of gear, rev match, push in clutch, put in gear, and go. It takes a lot of pratice, but it's a good tool to have.

Yeah i still use it, it helps keep the syncho mesh rings in good order...also it gives my clutch foot busy while I'm rev matching with the gas =)

Double clutching is not just for transmissions without synchromesh. It is an important part of learning to drive smoothly.

Motorbraking occurs when downshifting without double clutching. This can really upset the ballance of the car especially when you are downshifting while entering a corner. It can lead to understeer in a front wheel drive car as the front wheels exceed their limit of adhesion. On a rear wheel drive car motorbraking can cause sudden oversteer due to loss of adhesion in the rear. The problem is compounded by the "weight transfer" to the front wheels during the sudden deceleration. Use the brakes to do the braking.

Double clutching also saves some wear on your clutch and synchros.

hmm...power shift, speed shift, all bad for your transmission.Learn how to double-clutch,or better still heel and toe.But practice hard, and don't try it on busy roads while on high speed, you might end up screwing the whole thing and lose control of your ride.

Speed shifting is useless. Do not save much time and a big risk of breaking something. I would rather pay attention to the road.

civic_rida-> there was a post about Double Clutch + Hill & Toe.
but its a forgetten techique now.

Even I dun't remember.
Brake
shift to neutral (say from 3rd)
heel & toe to correct speed and rpm
shift to 2nd
full trottle

something like that.
