I wasn't sure if it was a GST or GSX (2nd gen? Model before the current one), but the guy was revving in a parking lot, probably testing out his fancy blow off valve. I jokingly revved back as I was leaving and figured that was it, but about 5 minutes later we both ended up next to each other at a stop light. I figured I'd get my ass handed to me but when the light turned green I took off and had about 1 car on him, then as we went around a gradual curve it turned into about 2 or 3. Then I braked and made my turn so I guess I lost/backed down whatever and the guy kept going straight and hit the hazards. I didn't feel like going out of my way that night, but I'm still surprised that I was ahead. I'm guessing the guy wasn't the best driver, cause if he were better, he would have owned my ass. Sorry for the long post.

Yes, the Turbo MR2 can easily smoke an Eclipse. If it was a FWD, you'd kill him on the launch, if it was AWD, you'd still be right there with him, and he weighs a LOT more giving you a serious advantage. Those MR2's launch like a mad man.
What sort of mods do you have on the MR2?

It's completely stock. When the engine is idle, it doesn't sound like other turbo mr2s, so I'm hoping that I get a surprise when I do my rebuild and find that it had some of the stock internals replaced.

I bet you smoked him for real. haha. If the eclipse had a boost controller then he probably could have won, but a BOV doesn't mean shit.

It had to be a fwd because if it was awd you wouldn't have pulled one car on him on the start. Good kill

Nice kill. Ive raced a couple of MR2's. They are quick, but dont they weigh in at around 3,000lb? As far as a MR2 hanging with a AWD Eclipse off the line, not unless the Eclipse driver sucks.

Yeah, about 3000. I dunno for sure but i think its a little lower, like....2800-2900?

Yo
My mr2 turbo weighs 2784 without driver. I have a GTS witch is the Model with T-tops, ABS, power steering but no leather, So a base turbo (good luck finding one) would be more like 2600 pounds.
And Actually a Mr2 can pull near identicle 60 foot times to a AWD eclipse. I own both so I can speak from experiance.

What 60 foot times does your MR2 pull? Ive never seen one pull a 60ft like a AWD Eclipse with a ACT 2600.

Stock gsx's can run 1.9 60ft. With a clutch, that should be down around 1.7 - 2.0 with a bad driver.

a stock '2 with a decent driver should run a 2.0x-2.1. It also depends on the year, 94-95s had a stock lsd which helps considerably. This is stock..

I would think it is a lot harder to get a good launch with a mr2 than a gsx but I am a little bias. I wish I could have gotten a mr2 but I didn't have enough $.

Sure with slicks.. I have seen AWD do 1.6 from several people on a consistent Pep Boy brand tire.. I dont know of many cars that can do that on street tires.
Sure the Mr2 launches like a beast, but cmon a AWD has that advantage. But its ok us 2's can get you before the run is over.... :) I have a 2 by the way. But wouldn't mind have a GSX. Especially a certain someone's that is black and is sitting on some Bronze Te37's....
damn...I've always been scerd of mr2's lol...good run

the talon is absolutely badass, i heard is going to be even badder very very soon ;)
p.s. and as far as a mr2 keeping up with awd launch, ummn no...but then again, awd is tricky when your a beginner.

about mr2's... a 91 gts will beat a 91 ferrari testerossa 0-60 (sp) i saw the 0-60 time for the ferrari in an old super street car book
my friends 91 gtS does 0-60 5.7 and the ferrari is like 6.1, i bet the ferrari has crazy top end though
still though thats crazy that a 15k used mr2 can beat a ferrari....haha toyota vs ferrari

ehh? you talking about jspec/euro mr2s? There no such thing in the US as a mr2 gts.. you shouldn't compare a ferrari to an mr2 in terms of dragging. a ferrari is not a drag car, but neither is an mr2. :)
