Dear SJPOPO- if there was a car that was at the rases on friday night and KTVU FOX 2 was there and they got it's liscense plate on video, could that driver then be prosecuted?? is there one of those statue of limitations things? or something that may protect the driver? does the media have a responsibility to blur the plates, to um protect the... "in the wrong place at the wrong time" people??/ please give me some info back...

I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it... (Hopefully) the cops have better things to do than track down street racers they see on TV and ticket them. KTVU isn't required to blue out plates, but they may be required to if you request it. (Call the station and see if they could edit out the plates before the segment airs)

The only plates you could kinda make out were the 2 stangs that were following each other. (they weren't doing anything illegal on the tape)

Let me ask you this... If KTVU were filming a piece on the high gas prices and happened to film a guy robbing a gas station, do you think that tape could be used as evidence?

The same applies to them catching you racing on tape. I didn't watch the news piece, though.

So, I guess the question would be under what law is it that you guys can't bust into KTVU's studios and seize the tape for evidence?

That may a harder task- because a large business could defend themselves?

Obviously it wouldn't be worth it, but what about an independant journalist- someone doing their own documentery?

i remember Aussie's president or prime minister was doing an camera interview in his car. He was not wearing his seatbelt during the interview. Aussie cops then issue a ticket to him. :)

Not sure in the states though. Just hope cops aren't too bored to find the video recording. Anyway, since they can't prove you are driving the car at that time. It will be hard to prove in court who is actually guilty.
